Howie blushed when Janet said she'll root for him. "Uhh, thanks. I-I'm glad for the s-s-support. But one of these days, I'd like to t-try and fight you...y-you know, j-j-just as friends. It's not like we're-" He suddenly turned his face away in embarassment of almost saying anything else unnecessary. "Uhh...I-I...I mean..."

Layla could see how Howie feels for Janet, but she wouldn't laugh at him for that. She thought it was rather cute, almost like an elementary school crush.

Janetâ€s cheeks reddened a little as Howie once again suggested that they fight someday. She was not really used to being crushed on by boys. Plenty of them had been momentarily smitten by her, sure, but she had been very open about her homosexuality for years, now—it was a sort of a defense mechanism, to convince men to keep their distance.

“Weâ€ll see,” she said at last, glancing over at Layla. “I donâ€t necessarily fight boys at all, though. Maybe I could make an exception, someday. I guess weâ€d have to see.” She paused, hoping for the other Native American girl to break in and change the subject.

"She'll think about it, Howie," said Layla. "No need to rush."

Howie nodded and said, "Oh, okay. I uh-uh-underst-st-stand."

Then Layla said, "Janet, maybe we can tell him a little about AFW so he would better understand it on the first day."

Janet was glad that Howie seemed to trust Layla, and that the other Native American girl had managed to get the conversation past its awkward stage. “Sure, we could tell him a little bit about AFW,” Janet agreed, sitting up again and wrapping her arms around her knees.

“Well, the experience is different depending on what sort of fighting youâ€re doing,” the Lakota girl explained, trying to find a way to put what she wanted to convey into the right words. “My kind of fighting is a lot different from the kind that youâ€ll probably be doing, and the kind that Layla usually does.”

Howie tried to understand as Janet explains what the AFW is like. But something about her saying sounded confusing. "What kind of fighting do you do?"

Janet laughed a little when Howie asked that question. She had been expecting that to come up, and, as much as she didnâ€t like talking about this sort of thing in front of a guy, she was willing to make an exception, since he obviously had no idea about the finer points of AFW. And, plus, he seemed nice enough.

“My usual fight is in a style called hentai,” Janet explained, her cheeks a little red out of plain embarrassment. “Itâ€s where two girls use sexual moves in addition to submission and catfighting moves in their attempts to beat each other. There are a lot of special stipulations to hentai matches, too.”

When Howie heard Janet's description, he said nothing at first, but then his eyes widened and covered his mouth as if he wanted to throw up. "Mmmph...I think d-d-dÃjà v-vu is coming back again." If Janet remembered, she'll know what Howie is talking about.

Janet did remember what Layla had told her about Howieâ€s past. She was a little surprised at how strongly he reacted just to the mere thought of two girls going after each other sexually, and she tried to assure him that it wasnâ€t bad at all. “I donâ€t know what youâ€re picturing right now, but itâ€s not nasty or brutal or anything,” Janet insisted. “I have a lot of fun, actually. I, uh, met my girlfriend when we had a match against each other—a smother match.”

Howie would listen in on what Janet had to say and thought about it, but didn't quite hear Janet's smother match in his thoughts. "Oh okay, I s-s-see now....Uhh, d-do guys also do th-this kind of f-f-f-fighting too? Or is it j-just w-women?"

Janet shrugged. “Well, guys fight girls a lot, and they do some matches where stuff, uh, sort of like this is involved,” she explained. “But I donâ€t think they do it with other guys. And Iâ€m not exactly sure about anything more than that. I donâ€t watch the menâ€s matches.”
