Remember that Anakin was conceived supposedly without a father and with a mother that was not force sensitive. Born of the force or whatever to bring balance to it.

But when you look at the saga as a whole, it's a story about the Skywalker family.

God, I hope they don't go that route. I actually don't hate Phantom Menace as much as most people, but that little revelation was always a step too far to me. Even for Star Wars, that pushed my suspension of belief too far.

Really? not the revelation that everyone has microscopic intelligent life living within all their cells, conveniently allowing them to use the force?
I think that if they were to go that route, it could just as easily be that Rey has a father and mother but just happens to have had "the force awaken" within her... huh? *nudge* you see what I did there?
As for Star Wars always being the Skywalker's story... Yes, but George Lucas ain't writing it anymore. How much of his original ideas are they going to keep?
Besides in terms of story telling, you look at it as the Skywalker's passing on the torch to end their tale

Re: Star Wars The Force Awakens discussion (SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY)
Passing the torch to someone that is not their descendant via training... Rey not Kylo Ren.
It may well be that Rey is Luke's daughter... But it just seems so obvious at the moment as acuya said... If Luke did a "I am your father..." scene, I'd just be kinda "Oh... ok..." rather than "Oh my god!". It would have no where near the impact that I'm sure Vader's mirrored scene had
Also it seems to me that untrained Rey is a lot more powerful then Luke (pre Yoda training). She was on par with Kylo Ren (both mentally and physically) who has had a bit of training and time to become accustom to the force... If she is Luke's daughter (Kylo Ren's cousin from twined parents), I would have thought that they should be more evenly matched

I doubt they will go that route, seeing as Disney hates the Prequels and is trying to distant themselves as far as possible from it. So I don't see anyone being born that way again.Kelsea wrote:Remember that Anakin was conceived supposedly without a father and with a mother that was not force sensitive. Re: Star Wars The Force Awakens discussion (SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY)
Can't really blame them if that's the case.
She could just be a random force sensitive like the others that died at Kylo Ren's blade, but I doubt it somehow... Plus I'd want some kind of explanation for how she was able to pick up the force so quickly.

Re: Star Wars The Force Awakens discussion (SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY)
I'm gonna throw my two cents in here.
Firstly, huge Star Wars fan, even rped it at a few twists and turns. Played most games and am still pissed at Disney for making Kyle Katarn non canon. Thanks for killing my childhood....DISNEY!
Also the stupidity of Dash Rendar being non canon but Shadows of the Empire being technically canon confuses me still
Other than that in the canon universe we have now of star wars. It's the prequels, the two tv shows. Clone wars and Rebels, the clone wars movie which is the prequel to the clone wars tv show, then we have the Origs trigs, and now force awakens. Along with all the new comics made by marvel.
In said universe we don't have many Jedi, what we know is that force powers are hereditary. Now, I have technically two theories about Rey.
One is that Rey is the child of Kanan the last Padwan or that she is Luke's daughter. Mostly cause the way the movie tries so hard to set it up, it makes me feel that it has to be true, but also makes me feel like it's a bait and switch which will annoy the shit out of me.
Firstly to say this, she is a force sensitive, on a desert planet who meets a droid and then crazy stuff happens. Then she has better force powers and control than most people, for some reason I can't see her just being force sensitive for that to happen. I won't buy it, imo she has to be someone's daughter. My headcanon will not abide by it otherwise.
I say Luke mostly cause of the scene where Kylo talks to Rey in the interogation scene and he starts talking about her dream about her father and so on, and how it's in the middle of an ocean on an island where she walks up to him. This is a girl who was surprised to see forests and shit, and she dreams of Islands and oceans ? IMO that should be a force dream, precognition of her meeting with Luke, and the last scene is so like...chessy almost in how her face is and Mark Hamil's face, it just looks as if they are gonna say " So dad, I'm here." and Mark will answer, " I'm so glad you made it." or some shit. Also R2-D2 only wakes up when Rey lands on the planet!
I would be fine with it being Kanan's daughter too...but I have a feeling he will die in Rebels, haven't finished watching it cause busy busy busy.
Now onto the next point. As for the Kylo Ren, I liked him. But I also disliked him. I disliked is attitude when things didn't go well, it started to feel a bit Anakin like. Throwing tantrums and being kinda whiny for many parts. It was not something I enjoyed. I enjoyed him when he was being cool and even when he was trying to be heartfelt and sympathetic, but his more...silly scenes IMO was when he just whipped out his lightsaber and started cutting things, it felt like a force attempt to make him " kewl" and it just came of as lame and angsty to me. I wanted to tell him to go listen to some Breaking the habit by Linkin Park and cry in his room instead.
Finn, I will say I liked Finn, but I had higher expectations that he'd do stuff and be more important, I thought the reason he'd break away from the first order was cause he was force sensitive or something. Just having him break free like that and be the only one who has done so is a bit iffy to me, and I hope he ends up being a jedi of some sort.
Rey, I liked her a lot. I felt that she was a bit too adamant abotu staying on Jakku, but that was fine. She was a good character, though her picking up force stuff so easily is something I am against if the explanation isn't good and satisfies me as a star wars fan (yes that may sound silly and selfish but headcanon!)
Po Dameron, fucking best character IMO. So long I have waited for an awesome space pilot who was actually good! and did cool shit! Po Dameron is who we all played in X-wing and Tie-fighter! He is the character who is cool and shows better piloting skills than any previous star wars char! Highlight character for me and I can't wait to see more.
Original cast - Loved them to death, they acted well and did well. I felt Han kinda came out of nowhere and they handled Peter Mayhew's walking problems well in this movie, if not a bit silly a times. One thing that annoyed me was they removed the scene of Maz handing Leia the lightsaber, that was in the trailers....and yes, if you don't believe me there is an article in LA times IIRC, that has JJ Abrams explain why.
Anyways, over all a good movie. Was it as good as the prequels, no. It is on par with Jedi IMO, which I feel is the weakest movie of the three, and Jedi is still REALLY FUCKING GREAT.
anyways, those are my two cents.
