Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Could be wrong, but I heard Kong and Taryn both tweeted that the dirt sheet reports about them leaving weren't true. Even if they aren't though, definitely a big blow to TNA to lose so many in such a small span of time.
Not gonna pretend they're my favorite promotion out there or anything. Some of the stuff they've done over the years has been absolute garbage at best, particularly when it comes to their storylines. But they've also put on a lot of great matches too.
And I totally agree with Harrier. Even if they're not the best, sometimes it's nice having alternatives to WWE on TV. The NJPW matches that air here are usually clipped rather than shown in full, and I'm honestly not sure if I even get the channel LU's on. If TNA goes, an already small pool of alternative options just gets even smaller. I hope they manage to stick around and make it work, but who knows

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Tai's 5 Thoughts From Raw:
1. Man, somebody on creative must really hate Wade Barrett. It's been 5 years since the Nexus, and despite getting himself over with the BNB gimmick, they have done a grand total of fuck all with him.
2. Hey, remember a couple years ago, when Jack Swagger was really over and was next in line to be World Champion? That worked out so well for him didn't it? I'll be surprised if he's not fired by the end of the year.
3. Hey, remember how like, a month ago, Lana was getting these really big reactions and chants and people totally loved her? That was when she was doing nothing except being her character. Now that WWE has taken an interest and trying to push her as a face...nobody fucking cares, to the point where she's getting "What" chants. Nice to know Rusev's jobbing and their split up was all for nothing.
4. Dolph Ziggler threatened to beat up a guy with a broken leg on a crutch. What a hero. I know people bitch that Ziggler never gets a real push, and while I think he's talented, I also never get the feeling that he actually gives a shit about what he's doing. Sometimes he gets bad and cuts a "I deserve better" promo, which is alright, but majority of the time he just seems bored.
5. Cena vs Cesaro was an awesome match, and pretty much the only good part of the show.
Man, complain about Lesnars schedule all you want, but frankly, at least when he and heyman do show up, it feels special and different from the rest of the show. Everybody else, except for Owens and Cena right now, isn't worth watching. Even when guys get themselves over on their own, as soon as WWE takes an interest in them, they fail and lose all their heat.
It's like...Vince McMahon used to know how to do this shit. What the fuck happened?

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Really strange handling of Barrett indeed. He´s got very good skills for a higher midcarder at least. He´s buff, tall, a good talker, stays in character. He´s lacking a little bit in the ring, but his routine is not that boring to disqualify him for good stuff. I would like to say that as a 5 time IC champ he has done comparably well, but sadly, he has not. That belt is always worth shit when it is around the waist of Barrett.
I am a fan of Swagger. I really am. He is a good wrestler and basically like Barrett when you change talker with wrestler. Even as an European, I think his *we the people* chant is great, a defining gesture and chant that should bring him over. But if the American hero only jobs on Mainevent or rarely on RAW, no fucks are given. It is as if WWE build him up and once he was really championship material, they let him fall into the cellar again. Desperately needs a manager, Lana would be much better with him than with Dolph probably. His WM mug shot disaster surely did him no favor though...
With Rusev and Ziggler, it´s classic WWE heel/face switch booking again. A man has a girlfriend, who manipulates him to the bad side in a silent enforcer role. A handsome guy appears on the stage and steals the girl from the first guy. Because the new guy is a face, the woman is also a face now, and the guy that had his girl and his identity stolen is still heel and/or looses the feud. So stupid, but obviously time tested with Hardy/Edge/Lita or Elisabeth/Hogan/Savage. The one time this pattern was slighty broken was with Bryan/Punk/Aj...
Although he probably has signed a new contract, Ziggler is officially a B+ player now. Shield members will probably dominate the scene for a while until Cena gets his last hurrah on the biggest stage or Lesnar decides he wants his title back, maybe a sprinkle of Owens here and there. And that is ok with me, he has done exceptionally well for a guy that was Nikki from spirit squad once.
Cesaro is the best overall wrestler in any WWE ring now that Bryan is gone, I can only stress that over and over again. Needs a good program and gimmick, then he is unstoppable.
I am also beginning to jump on the Owens train. Pretty good in the ring for a guy with a beer gut, but his main selling point is his aura, promos and charisma.
"I thought this was all a show, but tell you what, this guy really believes that nonsense. My son loves John Cena, but he is 7 years old, he doesn´t know any better. I can´t simply stand by and let my children get indoctrinated with crap like this."
Fucking great, believably heelish, but still with a dose of reality and heroism.^^

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
I kind of think that Swagger might be where he is now cause of non wrestling issues. That's the sort of feeling I get. I just don't know how he can maintain an over status. What we see as fans, even in our smarky age o internet is still only the tip of the iceberg as far as things go. There's a lot more to wrestling than just wrestling.
Ziggler's good, but I don't know if he actually DOES have that it factor. I don't know if he can maintain that level of shouldering a world title reign on his shoulders all by himself the way someone like Cena does.
Getting pop and getting over is but one step in having what it takes to be a champion. Not every star that fades is snuffed out by an unseen hand.
I also think that even though WWE can drop the ball, that the business really is like spinning plates. There's only so much you can do with one talent and not end up downplaying other guys.

It´s not that Ziggler could walk in the shoes of guys like Cena. Nobody can. I am pretty sure that Cena is one of a very few wrestlers that would have sacrificed his marriage, his private life and his body for the company. Ziggler surely is smart enough not to do that. Speculating from the past, it is not even needed, although it surely helped Cena a lot to survive against guys like Hardy, Edge and Batista.
*Hogan is a PR disaster from head to toe now, and a lot of wrestler(Savage, Warrior, Hart) confirmed that he already was an asshole when was the man in WWE. Kayfabe and lack of modern media saved him from being exposed much earlier.
*Warrior walked away from wrestling without sheding a tear for it.
*Ric Flair...enough said.
*The "I booked myself to be pleased with this" meme probably tells you everything you need to know about Nash.
*Austin is a confirmed wife beater.
*Edge and Batista stole a girl from one of their fellow wrestlers or made their way through the woman´s locker room.
*Randy Orton went awol and was dishonorably released from the army.
*Lesnar never gave a shit about the wrestling industry by his own account, the only thing he really values is his privacy.
*Jeff Hardy, Drug addict.
*CM Punk obviously does not want to have anything to do with wrestling after he walked out of an ongoing contract.
So you obviously do not need to have a certain type of character to be at the top in WWE. The Miz is very good with interviews, charities and public relations. Should he be champ again instead of Ziggler? I hope not. Neither of them should be WWE champion.

What do you guys mean when you say a certain person should be champ? You make it sound like a democracy or something.

Harriers argument seems to be that only the people who are real life assholes should be champion.
