[quote="Bluemouse":a8l0uffv]Sometimes someone can read something and develop an idea of it that it not identical to what the writer had in mind. DG was referring to what Kel posted, but it's possible/likely that she has her own version of the idea.
umm no I was pretty much just referring to what Kel posted...

Re: AFW Writing unison
I have never had a character anywhere near the top ten, so much of the above doesnâ€t really apply to me, but Iâ€m going to give you my opinion anyway, because this is the internet.
A ranked top ten, whilst a nice idea, was always destined to be at risk of becoming a bit closed-off. A title holder, one or two challengers, and a handful of contenders, would be more fluid and accessible, and is probably the way to go. Ironically this is much closer in spirit to how actual professional wrestling works - the storyline is key, not a scientific metric ranking system.
Ditto with the predetermined matches. I am actually quite fond of these, although most people Iâ€ve RPâ€ed with on this board appear to have a philosophy of â€just wing it and see what happensâ€, which is fair enough. Perhaps a happy medium would be to have both RP-ers (or a mod, for a title match) at least state their expectations of the upcoming match, e.g. “I expect it will go down to the wire,†or “I expect girl B will run riot due to ruthless cheatingâ€, etc.

I think that just changes the problem, and doesn't eliminate it. I think the goal is more to develop a useable roster, not to pick favorites. If the WWE or what have you had 4k wrestlers on the books, and CM Punk was no more noticeable than nameless jobber #452, it'd be very difficult for a fan to get into it. Also, it'd be very difficult for any of those wrestlers to gain notoriety with the fans or start a feud, as so small a part of such a large group.
Right now there's a big messy pile of all of your clothes from all seasons and from 15 years ago and that you bought last week. Imagine trying to put together an outfit. I think the aim of the new thing is more to arrange the things you wear regularly so that they're easily accessible and noticeable 'n junk.

Completely agree. I think the underlying problems with all of this are cohesion and community. As opposed to the feeling that you are staring into an abyss of unused and undeveloped characters.
Shameless thread hijack here, but a few months ago I did suggest a way of bringing some order to the chaos, with an ‘official†news thread that people could add their favourite finished matches to. This way you could easily see which characters were active and ambitious at the moment (as per Kelseaâ€s directory idea), and find the best-written RPâ€s of the characters (as per the ‘Showcase†idea). But the news feed idea bombed, so maybe it needs work. Or maybe it needs to be made a prerequisite of title contendership (I.e. you canâ€t be a contender until you have scored enough showcase appearances in the news thread). That would be an accessible goal for newbies and vets alike. And perhaps slightly easier to moderate.
Another random thought on the issue of ‘title matches affecting everybody†- maybe officially declare that the space below the final ‘Girl X wins by Y†line, should be open to anyone to post their opinion of the match, as a fan? I doubt it would get used, but still. Community feedback and all that.
