Re: Ideas Moving Forward
Finally, a little vet back up. Where were you guys last night when we were getting shit on?
And why is everyone up at 7 in the damn morning?
Dave, Helix...you wanted title stuff...did you ever once consider messaging the champions? I never got a message during my run, and Acuya hasn't gotten any from yah, and he works with everyone.
I'm noticing a trend also that the people most often saying Tension needs help are the people that don't often post in it. Tension is fine. Yes, having an all male roster can make things more difficult. Diversify bitches. Do more work than just yaoi matches with each other and get your names out there.
That being said, I am glad to see more yaoi on the board these days. We are inclusive here. Still, do more than JUST that if you want to get more attention.
People need to stop the whole, "Veterans avoid new people" complaint. Its already been proven wrong. If your just mad a vet hasn't worked you yet, or given you special attention, just deal with it.
We get busy, and we get swamped, with newer people that we work with, and our own shit with each other. Speak up, but also try some damn patience and understanding alright?
A title belt for brand new people is silly. The entropy belt is still a good starter belt, since again, its last 4 or 5 holders were people who joined in 2014. But they EARNED it, by doing stories, working with others, building up characters and proving to be reliable.
So maybe be patient, understanding, and a little less self entitled, ok?
And don't give up so easily. If nobody is buying what your selling, sell something else.

Re: Ideas Moving Forward
a) I was probably sleeping when you caught flak and now I wonder myself if I am considered a veteran with a late! 2011 joining date.
b) It´s 17:27 here.
c) Nobody, and I mean actually nobody wanted the Tension hentai and the Tag Team belt for literally years. Kitten even resigned the hentai belt! They were on the same level as the Laser Shark belt, and the Laser Shark belt still had and has a much cooler name.^^
d) letting go of a story is hard. Would I want my dream scenarios come true? Yes. Have I had some success with them? Yes. Are there still things open? Of course. So it also happens to guys who are 4+ years here.

Re: Ideas Moving Forward
Here's some serious advice. This goes for EVERYONE, not just new people, so some vets need to listen up too.
If you're concerned about picking up a title? If that's your main goal? You need to refocus your plans and efforts elsewhere. Titles are important, yes, but if you are dead-set on getting a belt, then maybe this isn't the right place for you.
Titles are a mix of multiple things here. They're important as far as story goes, but at the same time, they're not going to be handed out to just anybody. Most of the time (and there has been exceptions) they've been given to members that prove themselves as good workers, good writers, and don't whine about not getting them.
(In fact, whining about not having a belt is a fast track to NOT getting one.)
Having more titles isn't going to fix anything. If anything, they'll just cheapen the ones we already have. If you want a title, it's up to YOU to prove that you're worthy of it.

Re: Ideas Moving Forward
This is why I wrote Alicia as fundamentally disinterested in belts and not that bothered about her win/loss ratio. It makes things so much simpler when I can honestly say that, if she wins a belt someday, that's awesome and I'll be delighted. But, if she doesn't, I'm perfectly happy with that too. It won't stop me having great threads with great writers here.
Also, while I am a little busy right now, I never object to people asking me if I'd like to do a match or a storyline. I may say no, but I'll try to at least be constructive and polite in how I do it. If anyone has ideas for something that Alicia or Samiya could fit into, please let me know and we can see what we can work out.
Excuse the slightly irrelevant intrusion...

Great attitude liesmith!
It also took some of us 5 to 6 years for our mains to gain a world title and Kelly's reign was only play Heel for Taylor the babyface who had been cheated. Kelly lost the belt instantly.
Thats not to discourage anyone. But titles are vehicles not achievements. Just a reminder.

Re: Ideas Moving Forward
I write some of my girls interested in titles sure but my 2 main goals are to have fun and rp with alot of people, both if which im accomplishing already and hope to continue to accomplish
I never really saw vet elitist ideas being an isse which is why when I made that joke it was just supposed to be lighthearted and not taken seriously before Tai and Alex took it more personally, so once again I appologize if it came off as me pointing fingers or accusations.

No offense taken.
There WAS a point in our history where cliques WERE a huge problem, and a lot of us suffered for it, so it's kind of a sore spot for some of us older guys.

Re: Ideas Moving Forward
Lemme just clear something up for people.
It's not a matter of your characters goal is to get the belt, it's a matter if your own goal is to get the belt.
Characters working with the goal to get the belt makes perfect sense. it's when the rpers only goal is to get a belt where problems usually happen.

Re: Ideas Moving Forward
Tai, your post is sorta off base here. I don't know whether it's a matter of missing some of my posts or mixing up the points Dave was making versus what I was making or what.
I started off commenting on barriers to entry for participating on the site in general. I chimed in when we were talking about getting people to branch out, and I spoke about my personal experiences in trying to do so, and why it has been mostly a net negative for me. I did have side-tracked here and there (and mentioned titles), my intent has always been just that.
I don't claim to know Dave's whole mindset, but it seems to me his comments stem from not being able to set up a run for the title. I don't have all the details, so it's possible that I'm misrepresenting his point.
I grant you our points do run into each other when it comes to titles and belts and all that. But we aren't (or at least I'm not) whining about not being invited to the metaphorical big kids table and getting handed something I'm not due. Again, my point has always been about trying to branch out and build up, not whine about the belts. I have to say it's quite annoying for you to claim that and then have other people jump on that idea.
There's no point in getting into this all over again, I've said what I wanted to say, you (and others) have said what they wanted to say, we've kinda exhausted the subject by now. In fact, me writing this reply kinda exhausts it further, so I apologize for that, but I don't wish to be misrepresented.
To steer things back to more productive conversations, I'd like to go back to a previous suggestion to discuss. We've mentioned having names added to a list for people who would be willing to branch out and get randomly matched together (see Kelsea's post on p7).
Hamish noted that this list is prone to people changing their mind and also inactivity, and I can see how this just adds strain to some unlucky mod's job to have to constantly update it.
But I wonder, how would the list work?

But I wonder, how would the list work?
- Do we place the names on a wheel and spin?
- Do we pair everyone off on the list at once, or do we just pick a few match ups at a time?
- How often do we run these random match-ups?
- Do we take names off when someone is busy?
- If we dont actively set up things from this list, then how does it improve anything over asking people directly and setting them up yourself?

Re: Ideas Moving Forward
Speaking of belts.......(Also finally deciding to post on this thing after seeing the number of pages omg)
I like to think that when the UK Elite became Tension tag champs I was helping to do something great in Tension in the form of having tag teaming become more relevant. And from what I've seen since I feel like it has.
