Re: Ideas Moving Forward
It's not an elitist thing. Or even anything remotely to do with that. And sure we are not in trouble now. But if more and more people keep leaving for varying reasons then we are going to be in trouble eventually. Might as well start trying to retain people now, than taking action when the time's comes.
But forget it. I am not wasting my brainpower on this place anymore. Spending hours brainstorming and coming up with ways to help the place grow only to slapped back in the face.

Most people that leave is because they have personal reasons that keep away, or other things that can't be helped, like school.
Maybe I'm just an asshole, but I think your over reacting on a few things.

TripleHelix wrote:The biggest problem (in my experience) in getting bigger and better plotlines and experience for my wrestlers has been booking matches period. Like Sleeper said, it's been an uphill battle finding people who will actually agree to even a standard match.
How can I ever hope to boost my characters to where they'd have a reasonable in-universe shot at a title match when I can't book anything? I can't force people to RP with me, so I end up only ever doing things with a select few people.
And when I only ever RP with the same people (who also aren't title holders mind you), how can I ever achieve the "experience and accomplishments" necessary that Tai and others has talked about? I've literally given up on ever being considered for any sort of title and consigned myself to just enjoying what I can.
This will sound a wee bit hypocritical of me, since one of my characters currently has a belt, and another will be challenging for one in the nearish future, but this is really the right mindset to have.
With an RPG like this, with this many people, the sad fact is that not everyone is going to have a title shot, not everyone is going to wear a belt. A lot of it comes down to who you know, who knows you, who has the time to work with you, compatible characters, et cetera.
And I think that's how it has to be, and how it should be. Just like with 'real' wrestling, not everyone can hold a belt or even get a shot. You can still have plenty of good storylines without it, though. Some of the best stories i've read on this board had nothing to do with a belt. Hell, I'd say the vast majority of them didn't.
That being said, if there is one thing I think is worth focusing on, it's to make sure that, going forward, the people who have belts are willing and able to work with a fairly wide group of people. Not to say that there haven't been champions who haven't made good use of the belts - Highfly's had a good run going with Alaina, for instance, and Clyde's starting up some great stuff with the Tension belt, just to name two examples. But there've also been people who, for whatever reason, had belts and sat on them for months, even years, without using them for anything, which I don't think is fair.
Just my two cents.

Re: Ideas Moving Forward
A title belt is a responsibility and should be worn by people who are willing to also work with people. I always thought that a title should be booked by the moderators in the last consequence.

Re: Ideas Moving Forward
Also, while I'm thinking about it, minor suggestion: I think we should take the promos off the side bar and replace them with the top three from the notification topic.
I know a lot of people have complained that they're made requests for matches in the notificiation topic and gotten no response. I think part of that is that it's easy to skip over the notification topic, and if someone else makes a notification after you, the only way someone will see your is if they happen to pop into the topic and look around. Putting the top three notifications on the side will help requests be more widely seen, which could help people requesting matches.

7 pages in and this has been the best, most sensible, and most practical idea I've seen yet.

Re: Ideas Moving Forward
You could create a page that is the default landing page that had linksnto the top 10 Notice boards threads, top 3 ongoing PPVs etc

As true as that may be, I find it quite baffling to be honest. It´s not rocket science too scroll down. I expect the ability and the will to do that from everyone who has a mobile as they do that all day. The only way to make this even more obvious would be forcefeeding it by making it the starting site of AFW or something.^^

Re: Ideas Moving Forward
AFW doesn't need a serious make over... its actually doing well, has a great community and just needs a couple of changes here and there. My thoughts on a couple of ideas suggested:
1. We definitely should try to avoid forced matches (mandatory fun only rarely is fun). The idea of making a list upon which people could enter only if they were willing to be set up in a random match is a good one and I'd like to look at getting that set up sometime in the future as a compromise. I don't *think* that most of the older members here are hell-bent on not facing new members.
There shouldn't ever be an issue with finding *any* RP partners... If you post in the notice board and don't get a response, maybe you should respond to someone who has already made a match request (it just occurs to me as very peculiar that multiple people might be waiting for matches on the notice board but not answering match requests O_o).
The only issue as I see it is getting a more varied partnership pool for some of the newer members... Generally people who make friendships here will want to make matches together (hence older members that become friends will play together a lot)... At the same time, if they already have a number of matches booked, they are unlikely to go into the notice board and pick up more.... Meanwhile, newer members might be shy about asking directly... Or might ask only the people who stand out (like the names in red), but if everyone asks the same people for matches, them members will get swamped
2. The Entropy belt *is* meant to be for newer wrestlers as well as generating storylines, its probably leaned more towards the latter over the years so maybe just a slight course correction there to get more newer members involved in it.
3. I like the notice board in the margin idea, I never really used it to get at the promos...
I'd also like for the notice board to be used more for match arrangement (rather than notification of absence) and perhaps I will activate the auto-prune function (so that threads that are older than a couple of weeks get deleted every now and then). That way unanswered match requests would be way more visible

Re: Ideas Moving Forward
I guess this is where I will chime in.
Basically I have to agree with Kelsea that AFW has no need for being changed a whole lot. It's a pretty decent place with a very active community who works very hard for the things that happen to be going as well as possible and be fun.
There are a lot of rpers here willing to work with new people, me included. As well as come up with storylines and stuff that could be done. Especially for older members who have a lot of characters, it can be easy for them to perhaps give a story or two.
I would say that I don't really think it makes ALL that much sense for new chars or newbies to get a belt. It's not really a thing that happens all that often in Wrestling, at least from what I know.
Personally I think the direction that the Entropy Belt has taken is a good one, it's basically become the Mid-card belt of AFW. I think that's a very good thing and well...in my opinion belts are supposed to be story devices.
When I say I think AFW is doing well it's cause it is. I don't think there is any real problems with the titles, or anything really.
A suggestion for new members, if you want a storyline. Go to a rper you like, ask them if they can help you out with your idea.
