As a hardcore mma fan, how was it that surprising that the best striker in wmma knocked out the best grappler?

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
How has Ronda's life "gone off the rails"? I dunno about that.
It's probably more just and issue of Ronda just training for another fight, while Holly trained specifically to beat Ronda Rousey. I mean, watch that fight again, Ronda got fucking dominated and controlled the entire time. Holly figured out her timing, kept her from getting in close, peppered her over with quick hits to damage her and tire her out, Ronda had no idea what to do. The girl spent like, 10 years in professional boxing, and only lost two fights in that time (with three draws),hard striking and keeping people from getting in close probably comes second nature to her now. Maybe mental fatigue over recent whatever in her life played some distraction, but I doubt it, and I doubt Ronda would ever try to play that card. Holly had the right training, the perfect strategy, and probably took the fight more seriously than Ronda did.
But as for where Ronda goes from here, I really don't see her actually leaving MMA and going to pro wrestling. She finally has competition now, and now that the entire "unbeatable superwoman" image that the media and her fans have given her has been shattered, (and any chance of it having gone to her head, which is at least a slight possibility, should no longer be an issue) its far more likely that she'll rededicate herself to training harder than ever and shut out any and all distractions. No more movies, no more wrestling, probably no more Pokemon. Just busting her ass training so she can come back and show that she can adapt and really is the badass we've built her up to be.
It'll be interesting to see, because now that Holly Holm figured out how to take her apart, every female fighter is going to be watching and studying that fight, figuring out what she did and how to apply it to their own styles. When Ronda comes back, she's going to be facing a bunch of fighters who all will have an idea on how to beat her, and like any really great fighter, she has to overcome that.
Or, the FAR less likely scenario,
The entire fighting fanbase and media completely turns on her and decides that, now that she's been defeated, her shine is gone and she's not worth it anymore and she'll maybe do a couple extra fights before retiring and doing movies and making fat cash at WWE.
That's a possibility, I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time people turned on a popular fighter after they lost, (Kimbo Slice, lame as he is, does come to mind. Dude became a laughingstock after his first loss) but I really don't see Ronda as being the kind of person to do that.
In other news, Nick Bockwinkel died, he was 80 years old, may he Rest in Peace.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
In the US, fans are just waiting for an excuse to tear anyone down. Jon Jones dominated his entire division, but if he lost one fight people would come out of the woodwork to say how overrated he was. It's like reality TV culture, where American's just get off on the shortcomings and suffering of others.
In Japan, it didn't work like that. The Japanese crowds were what made the Pride era special, and they cheered for fighters even when they lost. The mob and the fight fixing technically made it special too, in a different way.
But now people are high on someone highly regarded falling short, and the fight isn't really even in the discussion. So now I just have to endure the "did you see-" from people. Then I can get them back with "DID YOU SEE THAT THE BILLS LOST AGAIN."

At least now we know how badly Rousey would get obliterated by Cyborg. That would have been a disaster. But it sucks that someone so dedicated fell from grace but I suppose that is what happens when you try to outbox a boxing champ.

"Fell from grace"
>Lost one fight against the most decorated striker in wMMA.
And she didn't try to outbox her, she tried to grapple her.

Perhaps I was being hyperbolic, but I still feel like losing the title must not feel so great. She was at the peak of her sport and now she is not there any more. That was what I am trying to suggest.
She threw a few more punches than she usually does and played into Holm's strategy. I think she was feeling overconfident in her punches after Correia.
Also, you can't greentext, dude. This isn't reddit.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
I was going to say that Blue was right, but Lukas just proved her point on his own.
There will be fans who just trash Ronda after this and just tear her down. She lost a fight against somebody with a strategy that worked perfectly against her. Happens to the best of them. That doesn't make her a failure, or mean she's "fallen from grace", it means she lost a fight.
What's important is what she does next. My bets on her busting her ass training and improving and whooping ass next time she's in the octagon.
