"Happy Birthday"

Clyde read a text message from his sister Bonnie and smiled warmly with one corner of his mouth, the other corner occupied with a lit cigarette that burned away in the cool midnight air. He replied with the exact same message to her. Today the twins were 22 years old.

He strolled down the streets of Kyoto just to do something, walking alone with the neon lights that illuminated the city, blowing tobacco into the wind as went into a nearby park, coming across a bridge, he'd lean against it and overlook the city. It wasn't like Home or even like Houston, it looked much nicer. A nice place to live, even if it wasn't where he felt he belonged.

He couldn't explain why he was out here in the city just walking around, he just felt he had, walking around and doing something helped him think better. Thinking was all he wanted to do, time to reflect about all he'd done in this crazy company where the pay was good and the hardships were just something to deal with. One of them was being homesick. He felt weird. He was happy because he had finally gotten together with Mercy but something was missing from his life. It was home. He had been here in Japan for a long time and he had not seen his mother in years.

He mashed the cigarette into the stone bridge and flicked it aside. Perhaps it was finally time to return home.
