The first one was great. Here's my two main problems with the second Hobbit.

One: Legolas should NOT have been in the movie. Maybe as a small cameo, but with the relatively huge role they gave him? What the hell, seriously.

Two: The new character they made for the movie, Tauriel? The elf chick? She was absolutely horrible and dragged the entire film down for me. She's one of the most obvious pieces of pandering and Mary Sue-ism I've ever seen. She was horrid, just horrid. >__<

When the movie was about the dwarves and Bilbo and Gandalf? Loved it. But when one of those damn elves came on screen I just had to groan.

They went overboard with her.

She's a red-headed elf chick made just for the movie. She's just as good a fighter as Legolas and has awesome elven healing magic and by the way she's totally Legolas' girlfriend but she's in love with one of the dwarves too! LOVE TRIANGLES!

Fucking hell, the Hobbit did NOT need that! >_<

My opinion wasn't that split.

Smaug was awesome, I could do without anything else. Cause thatmovie was basically how awesome are the elves, eespecially legolas.

Also,

Laketown sucks. Deserves what it gets.

I don't think that its message of "rich people are dicks" was that contentious, but still. In the end, the BEST way to do social and political commentary is through the medium of punching things with robot arms.

I really have no interest in any prequel of the Lord of the Rings franchise, already thought the Silmarilion is the weakest book in a series of books full of rhyming and singing with the Hobit a close nr. 2. I could understand why Lucas made part 4 of Star Wars first(feared that it would bomb and he was basically a nobody then), but why it was the same with Peter Jackson and the multi million dollars(which he would have burned anyway in case) he used to build three instant classics out of a hard to adapt book is beyond me.
