Re: Topic: Wrestling?
The biggest complaint about Mania this year is it was apparently too predictable.
So what? Does the fact that people were able to guess who would win mean the matches are automatically worthless? I think not.
Honestly, the reaction towards this ppv just confirms for me that fans/smarks don't really know what they want out of wrestling, since they crapped on all of the fun stuff for tiny reasons, instead of crapping on only two or three problems with the show.
6 man tag was a fun opener, with both teams looking good in the process and getting another big win.
-Fans complain and bitch because Randy Orton didn't turn heel, even though that wouldn't have made much sense given the matches story.
Mark Henry surprised everybody by getting a win over Ryback in what was a far duller match then it should have been.
-Fans complain about Ryback losing another PPV match, even though nobody predicted Henry winning, and the only reason anybody gave a shit about this match was to see Ryback pick up Henry for the Shell Shock anyway.
Tag Title Match was fast paced and fun, with every player in it getting their moments in and even poking fun at last years world title match.
-Fans bitch because Dolph Ziggler lost, even though NOBODY wants to see the useless Big E. Langston with a belt anyway and Ziggler doesn't need the tag belts to be over, and won the world belt finally.
Fandango and Jericho had a far better match then expected, with Jericho being especially helpful in getting Fandango over, as opposed to many veterans who would be lazy in this kind of spot. They even took the one real botch, that Lionsault, and used it in a way that made sense for the finish.
-Fans bitch because....I dunno...probably cause Stone Cold wasn't there to do nothing and get a fat paycheck.
Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger had what might have been the best match of their lives and is frankly the third best World Title match since the belt started being defended at Wrestlemania 18/19, just under Jericho/Edge and Undertaker/Batista. Both pulled out all the stops and hit their best stuff, with a fun ending to boot.
-Fans bitch because Dolph Ziggler didn't run out and cash in MITB, which somehow makes the entire match horrible apparently.
Undertaker and Punk had THE best match of the night, bar none. Instead of the spot fest that UT and HHH had at 27/28, it was more like the match between UT and Orton at WM 21, a very solid match up with signature spots, false finishes, and interference and other fun stuff. The only issues were the table not breaking, which can be forgiven and gives Punk more credibility for hanging in the match despite the injury he got from the botched table spot, and Undertaker not being able to leap over the top rope anymore, which is forgivable because he's old.
-Fans bitch and claim the match sucked cause Punk didn't win...even though everybody knew from the moment Paul Bearer became part of the storyline that Punk wasn't going to win, and there's nobody who can be trusted to break the streak anyway.
Triple H vs Lesnar had a fun second half...but the best part of the first half was seeing that dry ice stuck on Triple H's stomach as he went to the ring. That was funny.
-Fan bitching is understandable, since, while the match was fine in itself, it could have been so much better if Lesnar was facing somebody he HADN'T fought before, like Sheamus or something. Less of a "this match sucked" and more of a "we didn't need or ask for a rematch!"
Cena vs Rock......wow. Ran out of ideas very early on and apparently played way to much WWE All Stars before the match.
Still, had good comedy value and was kind of exciting watching it the first time, becoming laughable the second time.
-Again, fan bitching understandable, since nobody really wanted "Re-Matchamania" in the first place and this match was not nearly as good as the first one. Didn't help that the "Big Spots" were the same finish counters and false finishes that Punk vs Taker and Del Rio vs Swagger had used perfectly.
All in all....It was a very WRESTLING focused show, with little to no story development, which is surprising. Most of the wrestling was very good. Not one backstage promo which was surprising, yet the replacement commercial crap took WAY too much time. I would have preferred a funny Ron Simmons "DAMN!" segment instead.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Anyone read the article on the homepage of WWE about Cena being called SuperCena from fans?
If that is not a big *fuck you, we give a shit what you think this guy is and stays our Nr 1 guy* to anyone unwilling to support Cena, then I don't know what could be more obvious^^
I am also curious to know if the Rock pulled an Austin and walked out on WWE. He did not look happy with the WM ending, sadly Rock coul not step into the ring with another GOAT like Hogan and had to play the finish everyone dreaded to see.
Meanwhile,
Antonio Cesaro is jobbing and yodeling. WWE totally missing the boat with the man, I don't know how they can't see that he's the best wrestler they probably have. Bryan vs. Cesaro please!
Kofi once again midcard champion with no chance to rise higher. Okay... " title="Sad" />
RAW was not very good, but I am used to that. As usually, Smackdown fixed my apathy from RAW. I liked the matches with the exception of the match of Rosa and the Colons vs. Great Khali and friends, Danceamania of this caliber needs to stop ASAP.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Inspired from the jobber thread, I had to think about the WWE career of Sin Cara and his return from the 3rd? big injury.
The guy has to wrestle with a curtain in front of his eyes and in halfway darkness, points that somehow excuse his botches, and his recent match with Cesaro was nothing but great. Also it was not a Carry job from Cesaro, so he can obviously wrestle. But now hearing that he gets a chance at the IC title out of nowhere makes me angry. Not that Barret can do anything with it besides jobbing, but it's this kind of booking that makes the titles so worthless.
Also WWE cleaning house in developmental:
Percy Watson(much to good for a release)
Derrik Bateman(funny guy)
Briley Piece(Brother of Ziggler)
Sakamoto(The manager of Tensai)
Bayley, Brandon Traven(who?)
Audrey
Anya(not seen much of her, but the name " title="zomg" /> )

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Forgot about this thread..
Rock was injured partway into Rock/Cena 2, pretty badly from what I recall, understandable that the match didn't go as well as hoped then, I'll give him credit for going with it as long as he did though. Kind of a shame we won't ever get to see Brock vs Rock 2, as that could have been far more entertaining then the punch/kick fest that was HHH/Brock 2.
Sin Cara has no excuse for his botches. Jushin "Thunder" Liger has a FAR more complicated mask that he wears with horns and everything, and he doesn't botch nearly as much and consistently puts on great matches.
WWE is alright recently, shame we can't see the Triple Threat between Ziggles, Rio, and Swaggy, that would have been fun, since their singles matches have been awesome lately.
TNA been pretty epic too, Aces and 8's have been kicking ass these last couple months, Bully Ray's pretty much the best heel on TV right now. Though it is a damn shame that it took TNA nearly a freaking YEAR to book Aces and 8's right, unlike WWE, who have/has handled The Shield pretty damn well since they started last November.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
I didn't expect a good match from Rock and Cena. Cena is in any way simply average in the ring(with some ups like the flying legdrop and some downs where he knees himself in the face) and Rock wrestles 2 matches a year.
It was the last scene that really irked me. Remember Hogan vs. Rock? Hogan raises the hand of the Rock and asks the fans for support for the People's Champion while the Rock humbly looks down while he is praised by the Legend. Cena on the other hand bathes in the glory of his win while the Rock is ashamed to be part of it.
If it was not so ridiculous, I would really think that Vince does things like that on purpose to piss a majority of the fans off for disliking his idea of wrestling greatness.
Laughed about Marc Henry vs. Ryback. Really bad match, but the finish was great. Ryback has nideed a little improved, if he leaves the marching thing away he could make it into my *I don't mind if he's on* category.
And please, no more Bork vs HHH...

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Ryback, honestly, isn't ALL bad. Just mostly. He's got a good look, the "Goldberg in RVD's Outfit" look actually works well for him, especially the green color.
His moveset, while limited as fuck, DOES look powerful and impactful if it's sold well (Note: Dolph Ziggler sells moves better then ANYBODY right now), and can get the crowds attention, hence the usually loud to occasionally very loud chants of "Feed! Me! More!" when building up for his clothesline, at least before he turned heel.
Where Ryback FAILS utterly though, is in promos. I mean, for the love of whatever made up God Tom Cruise believes in, this guy CANNOT TALK WORTH SHIT.
Mick Foley gave a great promo a few weeks back, and Ryback ruined all of it by talking. And wearing that stupid beanie.
I believe Bret Hart came up with a perfect system for deciding upon a great wrestler, 3 things: Talking, Wrestling Skill, and The Look, each with a score out of 10, with anyone in the high 20s-30 being a great wrestler.
Bret Harts score:
Wrestling Skill: 9. While the style of that time is easy to mock now, back in the early-mid 90's, Bret's wrestling ability was above just about most of the roster, with only a few exceptions above him, such as Mr. Perfect
The Look: 10. Not the biggest guy obviously, but Bret had a pretty good physique then, and had a cool outfit to boot, managing to look every bit the tough, yet intelligent champion.
Promo: 6. Not the best promo, as he usually lacked the intensity and charisma that Austin and Rock brought to their later stuff, but his methodical way of speaking made you pay attention, and his American Heel/Canadian Face promos were the best of the year back in 1997.
Overall score: 25. Pretty damn good score.
Ryback:
The Look: 8. Again, his look actually suits him far better then if he was in just a pair of tights or that stupid singlet Big E. Langston wears, Though the addition of the beanie was stupid, and it's hard to take his face seriously sometimes.
Wrestling Skill: 4. Again, his moveset does look impressive if sold right, and can get the crowds interest...but its simply so limited that it's honestly a shock that nobody has figured out how to counter EVERYTHING he does by now, and matches over 4 minutes tend to get boring.
Promo skill. 1. This guy cannot talk. Period. Even though his catchphrase, which WAS popular as a face, gets him a point, its honestly a stupid phrase.
So over all....13 points.
Yeah, Ryback as champ is not worth it.
