Re: Topic: Wrestling?
It's also kind of the ho-hum way they book faces. Always smiling a big goofy smile (Finn Balor, Apollo Crews, Bobby Roode) and being booked to have virtually no edge or sense of bad ass attitude.(Like how Bailey refused to use a Kendoo stick on Alexa Bliss cause she didn't want to hurt her...and than loses to a kendo stick).
People will nowadays literally just cheer for anyone who shows some life and attitude seeing as they've deprived of it for so long. Braun Strowman is a monster who whoops wholesale ass and is therefore over with the crowd, but is still a babyface because he's smacking around heels and isn't cutting "Boo your town sucks" promos.

I never understood these your town sucks promos. I am the first to admit that my hometown sucks. A popular team, ok, I get that. But the hometown?

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Okie, I think this got out of hand enough that this needs to be commented on:
It's scary how quickly Trips switched his tune on NXT UK. From: "Eh, it's fine, wrestle in any indies we do not consider to big that aren't our friends (no defiant or Rev Pro)"
Now it's: "You wrestle with us, or our friends, nowhere else. And not against wrestlers who are from our enemies".
Not for everyone, of course, but British Strong Style (Pete Dunne, Trent Seven and Tyler Bate) had to quit Fight Club Pro. And it is Trent Seven's company, he co-owns it!
It's like...I get Trips wants his "world territory" idea to grow...but I feel off with it coming at the expense of indie promotions :/
(NXT UK is really good, btw)

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
WWE is using it´s market weight to bully the indies, that´s not exactly new.
And with the latest RAW drawing the lowest rating in history and their game plan crushed by the absence of Roman Reigns, they are probably tightening their regime.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
To be fair, wouldn't it really fucking suck if say, right before a Takeover UK PPV, Champion Pete Dunne got injured, doing a show for a non-partner indy promotion?
"Oh hey, Trips, listen, I did a favor for a friend a Fight Club Pro, and I ended up breaking my leg. So whatever stories and booking you had for me for the next few months? Throw those out the window. Oh, and that show I broke my leg on? You don't benefit from that show at all."
Not a phone call Pete wants to make.
Also, just stating a fact here. While I will agree that WWE is maybe not playing as nice as they used too, its not their obligation to ensure that the indy scene is always thriving and well.
It's the wrestling circle of life.
Start young on the indies.
Do a few flips, get told your the greatest wrestler of all time.
Cut a promo where you say "Fuck WWE".
Become a big indy star.
Betray your beliefs and everything you've ever said in a promo by actually joining WWE.
Go to Indy Heaven in NXT. Make Money. Fuck Bitches. Get 5 stars from Meltzer.
Go to the main roster, don't win the World Title on your first night, have the internet say you got buried. Lose to homegrown, non indy, wwe "talent" that don't have any actual talent.
Get lazy and coast on the main roster, content that no matter what happens, hardcore fans will always blame writers and Vince, and never you for any of your shortcomings.
Eat a Taco.
Time goes by. Maybe you get titles, maybe you don't, nobody cares because they are too busy screaming how buried you are to notice anything you're actually doing.
Eat another Taco.
Get fired from WWE.
Go Back to the indies
Cut a promo where you say "Fuck WWE!"
Be that top level or midcard-but-still-a-draw guy that helps the indies out and helps build up the next top level indy stars, so they can keep the cycle going.
Get crippled from injury.
Retire.
Accept a WWE Legends contract to shill for Network stuff for easy money.
Do autograph signings with Vergil
10 years after retirement, file a lawsuit against WWE to try and make them pay you a bunch of money for whatever injuries you had, even though on the indies you were doing more botched flips and table spots than Sabu himself, and in WWE you did like, one shooting star press, one time.
Lose the lawsuit.
Get fired.
Get older.
Go insane.
Use lemons to burn your house down.
Die in the fire, despite the fact that it was raining out.
Go to heaven.
Find out that the super elite rich 1 percent white people get to go to Super White Heaven.
Use lemons to burn Super White Heaven to the ground.
Meet favorite dead wreslters...annoy them by talking about their slow workrate and scripted promos.
Put Jesus in a Figure Four while screaming 'WOO!"
Go to Hell.
When Vince McMahon dies and takes over hell, ask for a job.
Become a WWE Creative Writer.
Eventually get reincarnated into a future indy star.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
"To be fair, wouldn't it really fucking suck if say, right before a Takeover UK PPV, Champion Pete Dunne got injured, doing a show for a non-partner indy promotion?"
Hence the rule of: "No matches anywhere a week before tapings"
"Go to Indy Heaven in NXT. Make Money. Fuck Bitches. Get 5 stars from Meltzer."
The "go to indy heaven" part is getting out of control, however. To the point of maybe breaking the circle. Like...there are only 2 A-Star guys left on the British Indy scene - Marty Scurll and Will Ospreay. And the former is not partaking in a lot of matches with whatever Elite Wrestling is coming up. There are still Mark Haskins and Chris Brookes, of course...but through the fact that they weren't in NJPW or ROH (or not for long at least), WALTER getting signed now...there aren't many true draws left on the Brit Indie Wrestling.
...and in America? We only have Jeff Cobb, who is amazing, but is a smaller name than Riddle (though maybe his PWG run will fix that)...and he is getting signed soon to, according to the rumor mill.
I dunno...I guess "the wild west" of indies, of tons of crossovers throughout the companies, is coming to an end :/ Not saying WWE started that. NJPW had buddies since it's inception, and never stopped. But now that Impact and WWE decided to imitate their buddy system with smaller/foreign companies, I guess people now have to pick a side and stick with it, or wrestle in small, b to c list indie promotions :/
Also, to the rest of the circle: lol

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
I guess it is rather easy to build up a generally accepted wrestler when you find a guy that wants to portray someone of his own making, which has the potential to be so much better than a personality thought out by someone else because it is your baby and you will give the very last to portray it like you envisioned it.
The tricky part is to convince other people from your idea, and to learn how to actually wrestle. Take El Generico for example. I found that gimmick extremely stupid, but together with its wrestling ability, it convinced many people that the guy inter the mask is an indie star.
So the indies should be save as long as creativity and wrestling are not entirely dead.

So Dynamite Kid died. I'd say RIP but he was up there for being The Worst Person in the wrestling business, which is saying something.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
So what do you think of the announcement of Vince McMahon? Hot air or really some more inclusion of the demands and wishes of the audience? Given the history of WWE, I am sadly leaning toward the first.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Meh. Vinces answer to fans not liking the show was to put all the McMahons back on tv on both shows. Not exactly going to make a lot of people happy.
I was there tonight live though, so I got to see next weeks episode being taped as well. Next week is a pretty fun episode.
Also, I'm pretty sure I cut off HHH's bus while getting on the freeway earlier...soo...I was a douche to HHH! Yay me!
