Personality: In the ring Josh is a focused, no-nonsense guy. Outside of wrestling, he’s very laid back and mellow, and has a sarcastic sense of humor. He can be a bit quick tempered at times, particularly when it comes to issues involving his family or the New Mexico promotion his family runs. He takes great pride in both, and won’t tolerate either being insulted. Much like his sister Julia, Josh typically doesn’t care too much about wins and losses. He considers himself a “student of the game” and is always eager to learn and improve, from both victory and defeat. And though he’s the youngest of the Rogers siblings, Josh considers his personality to be the middle point between Julia, who he believes can often be too carefree, and Jesse, who he thinks generally takes life too seriously.
Past/History: As is the case with his older sisters, Jesse and Julia, Josh was born into the world of pro wrestling. His parents are the founders of a promotion called New Frontier Pro-Wrestling in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where everyone in the Rogers family was born and raised. Being so surrounded by it his whole life instilled the same passion for the business that it did for his sisters. His parents were perfectly fine with, and encouraged him to pursue wrestling. But they encouraged him to participate in several different sports to see if anything happened to interest him more than wrestling, and to see what his best natural talents were so he could build a style off of them if he still wanted to wrestle.
Josh tried multiple various sports over the course of his childhood, but by high school was sticking only to football and wrestling. By then his body had grown and revealed that he possessed quite a bit of natural strength, which was only enhanced by the intense amounts of heavy lifting he did, both during team workouts and in his free time. By the time he graduated, Julia was wrapping up her lucha libre training in Mexico and Jesse was a veteran on the NFPW roster. But he fought hard to catch up to his sisters as much as he could. Josh never did get as good of a grasp on technical wrestling as either of his sisters, despite having been on the high school wrestling team. But his immense strength helped him bulldoze his way to a respectable spot in the NFPW rankings. He never did win their top championship, though at one point Josh challenged Julia for it. He gave an excellent effort but came up short. That had been midway through what went on to be a title reign that lasted over a year for Julia, which cemented the middle Rogers sibling as the top name on the roster. However, Julia was eventually offered a deal with the leading promotion in the world, AFW! Though sad to see her go, Josh and the rest of the family encouraged her to take the offer, which she did. In his sister’s sendoff match, Josh teamed up with both his sisters in a big 6-man tag team match against three of the best in NFPW outside of the Rogers family. The match was intense and ran just under an hour before Julia picked up a very emotional win for their team.
But things in NFPW were never the same once Julia left. The roster still had several talented people, but none quite connected with the audience the way Julia had been able to. Gradual declines in attendance and viewership became noticeable. But once again, AFW stepped in. A deal was made between the two promotions, signing Josh and Jesse to dual contracts. With the early success Julia had in Japan, AFW saw profit to be made by having her sibling on the roster as well. And at the same time, Josh and Jesse could keep their primary focus on NFPW at home while using their extra income to assist with its declining profits. And though they didn’t immediately tell Julia, Josh and Jesse also took on part time jobs as assistant trainers at the Higurashi dojo, where Julia trained.
Unfortunately, this didn’t go as smoothly as he’d hoped. Josh and Jesse weren’t ready for the talent level of the AFW yet, nor were they able to make enough extra money in Japan to mitigate their home promotion’s financial struggles. Eventually all three went back to New Mexico, deciding the problem could only be solved if they all tackled it together. It took two years of hard work, but finally they built NFPW back up to where it needed to be. During that time Josh even won the company’s tag titles alongside his sister Jesse, which was the first title win of his career. Julia made her return to Japan soon after, and once Josh and Jesse’s tag title reign in New Mexico came to an end they both decided they felt ready to take another try at the big leagues. Wiser and more experienced, Josh and Jesse made their way back over to Japan with newfound confidence.
Fun Facts:
- His bench press max is 600 lbs, not far from the world record for his weight class.
- Josh has a thing for foreign accents, though he’s never quite understood why. Irish, Spanish and Australian are his personal favorites.
- Josh won the state championship with his high school football team twice. He was also offered multiple scholarships to play football at various colleges across the U.S., but turned them all down to stay in the family business and pursue wrestling instead.
