Who Shears the Sheeple?

"Huh?"

Allie said, stopping suddenly but much more jarringly than Syd. She blinked and looked at Syd, waiting for her to finish her words but, of course, they never came and Soon the girl was back to walking too fast and grumbling.

Allie hurried to catch up. "That made me angry too, ya know!" Allie said. "I was just about to make her pay and then she grabbed me and tossed me like I wasn't even there! And then she threw you at me! I know I'm not a fighter, but that was pretty embarrassing. It pissed me off!" Allie shook her head. "This sucks." She said, feeling a bit of melancholy wash over her. She furrowed her brow. Syd was beginning to get to her and she didn't like it one bit.

"Eh-" A few indecisive noises escaped Syd while she struggled with the urge to say something. "Uh, um..."

But she closed her mouth and was quiet for the rest of the walk home.


Once back in their apartment, Syd immediately barricaded herself in her room, flopped on her bed, and turned on the TV, but she found herself restless. There was nothing good on, and she couldn't get comfortable. She stood up, but it took her the better part of an hour to leave her bedroom and cross the hall to Allie's.

She opened the door without knocking.

"...Hey."

Once Allie got home, she took a shower, slipped into her pajamas and was watching a little bit of TV. She wasn't too interested in it though and ended up painting her toes with the TV as background noise.

When Syd entered, Allie was visibly startled and pushed her hand into her chest. She glared at Syd and opened her mouth to speak, but then stopped.

The realization that Syd had never actually been in Allie's room as far as she knew. It was kind of weird.

"Hey, Syd." Allie said finally, motioning for Syd to come in while her nails dried.

Syd looked at Allie, and then at the floor. Her face was as blank as it ever was, and she didn't take one step into the room, despite the invitation.

"I'll win the next one," she said, and then after a brief pause she decided that was it and nodded before turning to go back to her room.
