Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Can't say I'm hype about the Triple H/Reigns feud going into WM, but I think the match itself has potential to be good.
I love the way things went down in the Rumble altogether tho. Loved AJ. Didn't do a ton, but lasted long enough to establish himself as a big deal and left people wanting more. Totally agree with acuya too about Owens eliminating him. Perfect guy for the job. And even though a lot of people called Triple H winning, it was done very smartly imo. Eliminating Reigns got the crowd amped for the final part of the match, and by having Ambrose and Triple H as the final two they kept the crowd cheering and booing who they were "supposed to."
Also, loved the stuff with Brock and the Wyatt Family. I know the 'Mania match isn't exactly going to be a showcase of masterful "technical" wrestling, but I think it'll probably be very fun to watch nonetheless.
And I'm hype for the Divas' title scene too. Not sure if they're going toward Charlotte vs Sasha, or a triple threat with them and Becky. Either case should make for a damn good match, as long as they're given the right amount of time for it.
Didn't get to see most of the New Day match cause my internet started freaking out on me right when it started. And the Last Man Standing match was a nice way to start the show. Also liked Kalisto winning, but it kinda made him winning and losing the belt to Del Rio recently look entirely pointless. Still totally cool with the match and him being champ tho.
It also seems like they're doing a pretty good job getting big storylines and feuds together heading into Mania even without Cena. Found that kind of relieving.

Not just any promotor, any person in general would listen to how the audience cheered for a guy that never set foot in a WWE ring before and compare it to your chosen guy.
But I am pretty sure that Vince McMahon does not operate this way. He´s probably thinking of how he can let Roman interact with Styles to leech his heat, like he always did with Cena.

To be fair, this was Orlando, pretty solid AJ Styles territory. I'm not saying he wouldn't have gotten a big pop elsewhere, but one could make the argument that location played a big factor.
What I think is more telling is that his t-shirts have apparently already sold out, despite not even having one singles match in the company yet. THAT might help him get over with Vince in the long run. If a guy with the body type of Kevin Owens can do reasonably well, then so can AJ.

Actually, the Orlando crowd was pretty on point yesterday. And fairly classy about it as well.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Yeah, they were a nice crowd.
Hated the fuck out of Roman, though. Damn. If I'd only watch the last five or so minutes and had no idea about what lead to it, I'd probably come to the conclusion that Triple H was the face and Roman was the sneaky heel who was coming back into the Rumble at the best time.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Which is actually pretty funny because...
It was in Florida. if anyone should be cheering for him, it SHOULD be Orlando, that's about as hometown of a crowd you're going to get for him outside of MAYBE Miami.
I mean, everyone booed Seth Rollins except Des Moines when they would go there. Even one of the most loathed heels in the company still got hometown pop.
Even though he's getting some genuine heat, people still don't want to be force fed Roman Reigns. Like, if you're going to make him the champ, he had BETTER have a heel that people WANT to see lose and beaten and it had better not be in a way that makes it seem like he's preordained.
There ARE ways to get Roman over, but WWE still needs to figure it out.
I don't think anyone is going to cheer for Roman over HHH though. I think they should have found it a way to make it non-title, though I'm not upset with how the rumble ended.
And this is coming from someone who has WANTED to see RR-HHH for a WHILE.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Part of the thing, for me, was when they carted Roman off after he went through the table. It was a weird move for a lot of reasons - the League didn't eliminate Roman, which would make sense, and while they put him through a table, that's typically not the sort of thing that will keep a wrestler down for thirty minutes. It was just so transparent that I couldn't even suspend my disbelief a little bit - everyone KNEW that Roman would be back. If you've been watching wrestling for a week, you could figure that out. And it's a little silly that, after billing this after a one versus all thing, Roman spends the better half of the match on the sidelines.
On the flipside, I understand the reasons for having him taken out, and I'm not sure what would be a better alternative. So...eh.
Also, sorry I'm so gabby in this topic. <_<;

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Dastardy Heel Owens: Literally staggers into the rumble, after probably the best opening match of a ppv in a long time, a last man standing match no less (which the commentators sell as being career-threatening everytime). Proceeds to do a damn fine job.
Against-all-odds-babyface Roman: Gets removed from the match, evidently not hurt so bad that he requires a stretcher. Then proceeds to coincidently appear after both Lesnar and Wyatt family is gone, attacks a wrestler on the way to the rumble, and does not once lend a hand to Dean (I get it's free-for-all, but compare it to last years rumble finish). Did anyone actually see him perform a move that wasn't a spear, superman punch or samoan drop? (Besides the drive-by on Rusev.)

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Yeah, I was pissed when they carted him off cause I figured he would come back and supes punch the last man and take the title, so it almost soured the rumble on me. Glad he came back when he did though and actually things ended up being ok, not that I'm biased as an Ambrose fan or anything >.>
Maybe they were thinking of the rumble in the context of more than just as it's happening?
Last year's I actually thought started off really good but the whole thing was just so tainted by the second half of it that it was hard to swallow. i don't think it's going to stand the test of time. I think this one will. It was the most solid rumble top to bottom since probably 2011, which was really, really good too.
@scorn, RR only has like 4 moves. I know he's gotten a LITTLE better in singles matches but even John Cener is like "c'mon, learn a move.
