I can´t compare Football to WWE of course, that would only be kind of possible if WWE would have held kayfabe. But MNF is always taken as an example of fantastic ratings and something WWE is compared with.

And yes, WWE has lost fewer viewers than other series and programms of USA, but look at what Skackdown will replace. Although reasonably good stuff, a millionth rerun of Law and Order will amount to nothing ratings wise anyway.

I didn't ask "can you contrive a couple vague similarities between the two?" People who watch old soap operas aren't going anywhere but that soap opera on standard TV. Football is also not found on the internet, and watching football on TV is tradition. Families are built on that sort of thing.

I see plenty of smililarities which are not vague in my opinion. But to everyone his or her own I guess.

The only big difference I see is the business model and the quality of development. Soap operas are looking for consistency with their plots and cast and like to hold on to all of their audience while WWE just recycles it´s content when it happened some years ago and hopes that new kids have come to wrestling who don´t know that John Cena has lifted Big Show up in the past, can lift him up now and will lift him up in the future. Plots are of course limited, but you won´t see a soap opera where the villain never even wins just a small victory or one character who superhumanly saves the day against all odds over and over again. But that is not a necessarity, just a choice from WWE.

And about football, I don´t know which party started to compare MNF to the WWE, but it wasn´t me. Just look in in any thread about WWE ratings in any wrestling forum and you will see how often the comparision is made.

If you don't think Soap Operas recycle their plots, you must have amnesia.

Of course they recycle too, usable plots are finite. But it is not so blatantly obvious and it is not always the same people that hug the same plot. I indeed should have worded that better.
