Taiaha Special (Back)- First, Honi would give a left and right chop to the sides of her opponent’s body before a left punch to make them spin and face her. Next, after sticking her tongue out as a way to insult them, she would give a right elbow strike to stun them and a left elbow strike to spin them again to make their back face her once more. Then, she would give a two-armed uppercut to the back to knock them into the air and make them land on the mat hard. And finally, she would end it with a jump and landing with a double-handed chop on their stomach or back before releasing her signature war cry.

Attire: Same as in pic, only that she also wears camouflage shorts underneath her grass skirt for security and dark brown army boots. Sometimes, she goes with foot wraps around her bare feet to adjust her speed and balance in battle.

Personality: In the ring, Aihe is ferocious, ruthless, and doesn’t show any mercy to her foes. But outside the ring, she is very protective of her friends and loved ones and would do anything to ensure that justice is served (even though she goes overboard sometimes).

Background: New Zealand-born Aihe Wihongi may look beautiful on the outside, but she is actually descended from a long line of Maori warriors, so fighting was already instilled in her blood. She desired to become as great as her ancestors before her so at the age of 10, she began to look into the Maori’s style of fighting and trained in karate. Then at 14, she also trained in Mau Rākau (or as Aihe likes to call it “Mau Taiaha”), the ancient Maori martial art where she can specialize in the weapons of her ancestors. Aihe’s favorite is the taiaha, a close-quarters staff made from wood or whale bone that is used for quick strikes, stabbing thrusts, and even stunning opponents before striking again. Upon completion of all courses, Aihe received her very own taiaha marked with her family’s tribal symbols so she can carry on their name.

Having attained her Maori honor, Aihe wants to show her family’s ancient fighting prowess to the world and not just in her homeland. But how was she going to do that? She pondered this question in her mind for quite a while until one day she caught sight of a commercial that was showcasing different women fighting in a wrestling ring. Each one was representing a different country and brought their unique combat skills whether it’s traditional or a new creative spin. Those letters “AFW” in the end were enough for Aihe to search them up and sign in. In a matter of weeks, the female Maori was on her way to make history of her own.

AFW is now Aihe’s big moment to shine and fight while paying homage to her roots. With her signature haka (war dance), war cry, Maori face paint, and intimidating fighting style, she now goes by Honi, which in her native tongue means “to devour”. Once she sets out to fight, her opponents had better look out because she is hungry for a battle and will not stop until she emerges victorious.

Other Info: Even though she is perceived as unforgiving and merciless, Aihe also has a gentler side that is enriched by her native roots and culture. So, she is also good in Polynesian island dancing and playing folk music on her guitar.

Unlike the majority of her Maori ancestors who were cannibalistic as part of achieving mana (spiritual power), Aihe would rather snap her teeth at her opponents along with protruding her tongue to intimidate her opponent. However, if a match included no disqualification and anything goes, she would only bite not really as hard, but firm enough to make her foe feel it and fear her.
