Re: Friction Shows
Just wanted to give this topic a gentle bump to bring it back into the spotlight, maybe it could get more traction now that SummerSplash is in everyone's rear mirror and people have more time on their hands.
Plus I wanted to get off of post 666 ASAP. That's bad juju....

Re: Friction Shows
I really really like this idea. We have a ton of different wrestlers doing a ton of different disparate things. This would be a lovely way to tie everything together.
I don't know if I have a vote, but I am all for it.

Re: Friction Shows
I'm going to comment on this based solely on my general background*, being new to the site, but I have found that smaller groups tend to cultivate more character growth and development than larger ones since you have more chance to form connections with other characters. It would also make the PPV events, cross-overs, a bigger deal because you would face new and different competitors.
The contract system does sound a bit tricky to implement. Would be best to just have a manager cherry pick their show's competitors, or have a set number of "slots" and let people raffle for spots on their chosen show. Or maybe just first cu- ahem, first come first serve.
There's my two cents.
*My background: Game-Mastering for 5 years or so on a fantasy rp site, including a lot of h-themed games. RP-ed another 10 years on line and off outside of that, but less relevant as I was on the player side or dealing strictly with small groups.

Re: Friction Shows
I get where you are coming from Lily. I think in the OP it was mentioned that you can still do whatever sort of matches you wanted, so you could still cultivate character growth independent of this. This sounds like an opt-in sort of program, so you can still do whatever outside of this. And another point about the PPV thing is that it doesn't really make sense for a character to get a PPV match out of nowhere. It seems more similar to real-life wrestling if a wrestler has an objective way to work themselves into a big or title match. And people not responding is a bit of an issue here. So it I think providing a solid incentive to keep trucking along with a match.
And this is from a sheer personal perspective, but things seem like they matter more if they effect a lot of people. As it stands right now, I feel like every character has their own little vignettes and there really isn't a coherent whole. Like it is not a real company. Jessica's matches right now only effect Jessica and her opponent- if this were implemented, a dozen girls would be effected. That just has more of an impact, to me at any rate. I think it makes for better storytelling.
But I agree, it might be tricky to implement.

Re: Friction Shows
Most characters don't get PPV matches out of nowhere. There's usually an effort to make a proper lead-up to PPV matches, even if it is just something small.

Re: Friction Shows
So I probably could have phrased it better. But I think more build up would be a pretty healthy thing, especially in the ring. Feuds in the WWE can last for months, spanning quite a lot of matches. I don't know if we are based on any real company here given the matches that go on, but I think it is nice to have some sort of anchor. I like it because it removes a good deal of ambiguity, but I guess I can be persnickety about things like that.

Maybe I'm missing what you're trying to get at, but we have feuds here that last for months and lots of matches too. O.o;
