“<Weâ€ll see…I canâ€t lose either.”>” He winked back, smirking.

The crowed was still whooping and hollering, definitely in favor of seeing this surprise right here and right now. Apparently, the folks backstage had been getting ready, because before John knew it a ref had climbed into the ring.

This was convenient, John was able to just hand his belt right off to the ref, who in turn handed it off and got it out of the way.

John turned around and gave the crowed a big smile. But in truth, he was a little nervous. He felt more nervous than he did before his title fight. It wasnâ€t that he was afraid of a fight, it was that this fight seamed more…real, more important that his other matches. This would be a real test. Angel was quite well known and had fought hard for her prestige, John wasnâ€t. This would be his chance to prove himself. He took a big gulp, but kept all of the nervousness out of his face.

He backed off a little bit, cracking his neck and turning towards Angel again.

His heart began to beat a little faster. His body tensing more than he knew it should. He took a deep breath, relaxing himself. His senses were sharp, everything he saw seamed more focused, everything he heard was more defined. He hadnâ€t felt this way in a long time. He smiled to himself.

Finally, after all of this, the bell rang. John came back towards Angel, but didnâ€t attack. Instead he lifted his arms up, offering a test of strength with the other champ. He knew this left him open if she tried something else, but he did it anyway.

Angel grinned at John, passing her own belt off to the referee. She was dressed tonight in a tight-fitting sports bra and a pair of loose gym shorts, completely ready to throw down against John. She couldn't deny she was a bit nervous though. Well, not so much nervous as she was unsure of things. She had put a lot on the line, crashing Tension like this and calling out their champion. She had to back up her words now, or else she would never live it down. But...she totally wasn't expecting the champion to be someone who looked as capable as John did. She was totally expecting some kind of a joke to hold the belt, or some girl who had used her body to shame all her opponents into a loss. This...this wasn't quite was she was expecting.

It wasn't a problem though. She would kick John's ass and be on the next train back to Friction.

Angel watched John step forward and raise his arms towards her. She knew she would never beat him in a contest of strength. Just one look at him told her that much! She was willing to give it a try though. It was better to find out now just how strong he was rather then be caught off guard later.

She stepped towards him, the Latina lifting her arms up towards him. She gave John a single nod, then lunged straight in, taking his test of strength head-on. As soon as their arms met, she dug in her heels against the match, trying to push against him, trying to get a feel for just how strong he really was.

John had met these jokes, and had met the woman who tried to shame their opponents into inaction. John wasnâ€t one for inaction, though. Heâ€d gotten past all of them, but still had only found one or two people actually interested in competing. Angel would probably be something new.

John looked carefully towards her as she passed her own belt off and got ready. Part of him expected her to ignore his invitation and attack immediately. He wouldnâ€t blame her, in Johnâ€s mind one does what one has to do (within the rules, of course) to achieve the objective. That was very important. He was ready to quickly try and evade.

Angel, though, seemed ready and willing to try to match strength with him. John nodded back, his eyes meeting hers, as her arms meet his. He could feel her body digging in. She was definitely a strong opponent. The crowed loved this opening action, the two champions testing themselves against the other.

Johnâ€s boots dug into the ground as he felt Angel shoving him. He pushed back, hoping to overwhelm her quickly by pouring all his strength into this opening test of strength. He had to keep up his strength for the whole fight, but coming on very strong in the opening moments could give him a decisive advantage. He thrust forward and down a bit, trying to overpower her arms.

The moment that John began to push back against her, Angel realized she was more than a little outmatched in terms of strength. She remained unfazed though, giving him a smile as she began to slowly get pushed back, her arms getting turned downwards. She knew she'd be out-muscled by him from the start. She just needed to know how much stronger he was.

Quite a bit, it seemed.

She took a step with one of her feet outwards, making sure her feet were planted firmly below her. She wasn't going to give John another inch...and more importantly, she wanted to make a big impression on the Tension crowd. With a low growl, a defiant sound, she began to redouble her efforts, trying to stand her ground and push back against John. She was trying to push back up against him, trying to turn her arms back around. She was hoping that at the very least, she could do that much against him, and at best, maybe even start to force him back!

John was like an old style battleship. He could bring powerful main guns to bear, but the smaller cruisers and destroyers could outmaneuver him. So, in strength against strength encounters, John had a distinct advantage. John continued to push as hard as he could, trying to force Angel back if he could.

But, now Angel was rallying. She put out a burst of strength. John tried his best to keep pushing Angel, but she stopped his advance cold. He had to use all his strength to keep himself standing in place, stopping himself like a stone wall.

Now they were stuck, at a stale mate. John was still trying to force Angel back, but couldnâ€t. At the same time, John was holding his position and wouldnâ€t be easily pushed back. “Your strong.” He observed.

"You...too..." Angel muttered through gritted teeth, trying hard to stand her ground. She had stopped John in his tracks, for the moment, but she knew that her stalling wouldn't last long. All it would take was a sudden burst of energy from John to force her back again, to make her start losing her own ground once more. She had to act before that could happen, and fast.

Her instincts quickly took over, the Latina wanting to break the lock-up and get some space between herself and John. She took a brief moment to lean back from him, then suddenly tried to jump up, trying to plant her feet right into his chest. At the same time she released her part of the lock-up, hoping she could push out with her legs and kick the taller man away from herself, hoping she could catch him off-guard with the sudden maneuver.

John knew that, if they stayed like this, he would eventually prevail in their mini struggle. Which meant he HAD to overpower her before she could change the game. John stopped for a moment, taking a deep breath, and prepared to give a sudden burst of surprising strength…

He flexed his arms, ready to shove, when she suddenly surprised him by backing up! Before he could respond, she leapt up and planted her feet into Johnâ€s chest. She punched back, letting go of him and shoving him backwards.

John went stumbling, nearly falling backwards from the kick. He let out a ragged breath as he caught himself, now standing almost a meter and a half from angel. “And fast, too.” John observed again. Having stayed up, he was able to recover well enough, but he was still delayed in getting back into a defensive stance, his arms up.

Angel dropped to the mat after her jumping kick, but the Latina was quick, rolling over and hurrying back up to her feet.

"Got that right!" she called back to John, throwing a small grin his way. Angel knew she was fast. Not as fast as someone like Taylor, no, but she had more than enough speed on her side. She hadn't spent so long working out and strengthening her legs to not have a ton of speed to spare!

She hurried back to her feet, and knew she had John. He looked unbalanced, which was exactly what she wanted. Moving fast, she lunged back in towards him once more, but this time she threw up one of her long, powerful legs towards the Tension champion, trying to arc one of her infamous kicks straight towards his side, hoping to keep him off balance and unable to get up a defense.

She didnâ€t need to be as fast as Taylor, she was definitely faster than John. She expertly placed that kick on his chest, knocking the wind out of him. Despite that, though, he was still somewhat defensive, his arms already up and having prevented himself from toppling to the ground.

Johnâ€s eyes went slightly wide, he saw the kick coming. Instead of trying to block, he tried to absorb the kick. Very luckily for him, the kick hit on the opposite side of his scar (which, while not crippling him, would have stung). Johnâ€s body shifted to the side slightly as the kick hit him.

It was hard, but he had prepared himself for it. Just after the kick hit, John crouched down and swung his own long leg. But he wasnâ€t aiming to kick Angel, he was aiming to sweep her one leg out from under her before her other leg (the one which had just kicked him) could regain its balance. He wasnâ€t fast enough to avoid her kick AND attack, so he choose to take it and attack anyway if he could.

Angel's body shuddered as her leg smashed into John's own. She grinned as the attack connected, sure that he would go down from the kick, but...he didn't. She watched him shifting to the side, but maintain his balance and stay standing. A quick curse emerged from her lips. He was good, to absorb her kick like that, but it didn't matter to her. She'd just have to kick him harder next time.

She started to shift back away from him, before her raised leg had even hit the mat, John crouched down, and the next thing the Latina knew she was being swept off her feet. She hit the mat, landing on her back before John, momentarily caught off her guard by his crafty maneuver.
