Soooo, has anyone else seen it?
Out of pure boredom, I fugured I would see if anyone else had seen the 2012 re-release of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure? I'm not really sure how people have actually seen the first release of the show, since it was pretty short, and very underground. Even the Manga isn't too mainstream for that matter. But all the same, it's a fantastic series, and is considered the best of 2012 by many... soooo, has anyone else seen it? If you have, thoughts? Opinions? Criticism? Anything! Talk talk talk!
Here's a link to the opening of part one. Pretty impressive, considering the budget for the intro alone was so high.

While I agree with most of your post, I gotta disagree with one thing.
The manga for Jojo is pretty damn popular and well known. O.o Mostly thanks to Capcom's awesome PS1 fighter, but still!

I don't know, I rarely ever hear about it on any anime forum, or the like. I always considered it pretty underground, mainly because I never once, aside from a few people, heard anyone mention it. I never even see the manga listed under any top rated lists. Not that I expect everyone to like it, but still. Then again, I should have learned that to be false when I heard that the first three episodes were getting a worldwide release on the 30th... All the same, it's one of my personal favorite series.

According to wikipedia, it was serialized in Shonen Jump for 17 years. Your move.

NEWS FLASH: the Archergurl who you speaking of is not part of AFW anymore and she's currently working in production for new game titles in Japan. I'm her Canadian friend who she gave her PC due to mines has crashed. She was nice enough to give it to me to help a friend in need. So she got a spared one that she uses for the things I've mention above. BTW, Anegge and Alexandra be sure to check the E-mail adresses carefully. As Archergurl and me aren't the same thing.

For what it's worth ThunderFox, I've never read it. "Heard" the name plenty of times. On Here, on TV Tropes, and such, just never actually read the manga.

Re: Soooo, has anyone else seen it?
IIRC, the reason no one ever talks about it is that in their all-knowing wisdom Funimation decided that the only anime anyone ever needed to see for the entire decade of the 90's was Dragon Ball Z.
Edit: Oh and let me tell you about the 80's. We didn't have this newfangled Gun Damn. We had Robotech which was three different anime smashed together in a nonsensical manner, and we liked it.

Re: Soooo, has anyone else seen it?
it's popular in JAPAN.
It's not popular in the WEST, particularly in the United States because the Mangaka uses a lot of band names and other very copyright unfriendly things in the manga.
I read the first chapter and looked at the most recent chapter and the art is just not something I think I can suffer through for 800 chapters no matter how good the story is and I have definitely heard about how ridiculous it can get.
That being said, watching an anime version might not be such a bitter pill to swallow.

Re: Soooo, has anyone else seen it?
I seriously recommend it. If you are into the kind of Shonen manga kind of thing, you will really enjoy it. Plus, the main antagonist, Dio, is probably one of the most memorable I've ever seen.
And anegge, I agree. Dragon Ball Z was almost always at the forefront, and wasn't nearly as good as JJBA. Even today wee are still getting DBZ shoved in our faces, with re-releases and redubs every so often *cough cough* DBZ Kai *cough cough* .... But at least Jojo is getting more attention now with this new release. Which I'm happy for.
As for the band names, you are right, there are dozens of band references, if not just straight rip offs of band and song names (Ex: The Stand, Killer Queen, or the characters from part one, Dire, and Straights). But I love it, just because it was always fun to see what the rest of the characters would be named.

Tat says Pioneer owned DBZ in the 90's. Apparently, I had wiped my mind of their horrific dubs.
