Re: Writing Profiles
I feel like I should point out that the first, currently greatest clown the AFW has already seen is Vanderdecken.
Anyway, describe the character, describe his/her early life and follow it along until you get to AFW, add a picture and thread/record stuff, done.

Re: Writing Profiles
My logic has always been "Okay, I want a character who does this, that, and the other and whose central philosophy is hudda hudda hudda. In this situation she will usually respond with that action." Then I say "Okay, why did she come to this, that, the other, hudda hudda hudda, and will generally choose that response to this stimulus?"
It's not unlike a pro-wrestling character only penning the epic of a backstory to match their kayfabe persona. The Wild Card is practically Dolph Ziggler's and Adrena Lynn's bastard child with an extreme sports motif.
I mean, if you gave me about 45 minutes I could probably dutifully report two or so different bios for that one bearded guy in the WWE who talks about enlightenment all the time. He's got a simple, straightforward premise, a drive that animates him and causes him to take great risks to see it through. What has he seen, done, or had done to him that has given him such a low opinion of the masses? That's not a hard question to answer.
Essentially, make the character you want as a present snapshot, chronicle a backstory to the character that shows how they got where you want them to be. Ensure it isn't too long and stays decently grounded. Really, nobody is here for that backstory crap and on a site where the joy is in the here and now. Nobody here I think writes SO amazingly as to make their bios totally worth the time of reading anything more than a brief skim between the abstracts and pictures. Even though the Wild Card is possibly one of the most interesting women alive, I know I could not do justice to her curriculum vitae simply by delivering to you all as prose.
Of course, a few DMs tend to love to dig in such casually written backgrounds so you have to write more carefully if you're engaged in P&P RP. There it might be a good idea to draw some plot bullet points for your backstory to connect them together.

Re: Writing Profiles
Tai, you really don't need to pay anyone to write your profiles for you. This is the internet, and people will keep giving their opinions, even if you try and pay them to stop.
So just post whatever sketchy character ideas you have in an open thread, and ask everyone to fill in the gaps as they see fit.
Pros: you will have the distinction of AFW's first communally-created character
Cons: they will likely suck

Re: Writing Profiles
Hamish, if there is one thing that AFW has proven, it is that getting everyone together to focus and work on something....
Is a really bad idea. XD
I honestly think I'm better off suffering through unoriginal ideas caused by writers block then asking the entire community to assist me on making even one.

Re: Writing Profiles
+1 for Cenafan.
As much as I want my profiles to reflect my characters and all the things that make them tick and make them unique, that's not really possible. Their character is revealed in what they do. The profile is just a crash course to give people a vague idea of the character before they rp with it.

Cenafan....you are a credit to wrestling fans.
I think my only complaint now is the stupid backstories. Of which I just try to set too high a standard for myself.
So these next 4 girls, generic backstories! Wooo!

Re: Writing Profiles
Are you thinking of backstory like "was raised by radioactive ninja pirates until he murdered his father because he surpassed him in ninja skill and got his own space pirate ship where he met a giant animal-shaped demon who ate his stomach and now he lives there giving him limitless power", or "grew up in a suburb of chicago and played football in highschool, but became a wrestling fan when a friend took him to a local show and he met a wrestler and he talked him into giving it a shot"?

Stealing that for my next character, thanks.
