Playing a suggested character

I've recently and in the past been considering suggesting character ideas for other particular members to use In order to get particular matches or rivalry set ups that I wanted to play. However I often feel that if you play a character that was not originally one that you had planned to play yourself, you are more likely to lose interest in the character and not play her/him after a while.

I just wanted to hear everyone else's thoughts on the subject.. Would you likely play a character concept that was suggested to you? and do you think you'd lose interest in the character?

The idea itself is actually great, nothing is more dull(in my eyes at least) if characters don't know jack of each other and form real life cliques all the time cause the one side wants to be asked and the other side too, so in the end, nobody asks. So everyone would benefit(Forum: Players with history/better story; New Players: faster feeling for the game itself, Veterans: new toys to play with^^)

But it usually doesn't work when I recall seeing approches like that, and for various reasons:
-The Character is too specialized for most people(who could say with an honest face that he could play the Dark Knight properly?)
-The idea is not appealing to most people(I love to play henchmen types and smaller roles, but most people don't)
-The player who looks for someone is is not open to suggestion(my rival/relative has to be blonde/redhaired/slim/stupid etc etc)
-Avatar Preference(Daniel Radcliff or bust...!)

Possible ideas:
*Look for Groups instead of the perfect match(Anja looks for other girls from the circle of dragons). Keeping people in group doesn't bring you in the necessity to sell your (probably boring for most, but gold for you) character again and again.
*Compromise(Kitten wanted to have a blonde for Anja, and I give a shit if a character is blonde or brunette as long as I like the character, so that was rather easy)

Personally, I wouldnt mind. If it was meant just for a specific fued or something, I could play it as I was "told" for said fued, then change it after.

In fact, the ideas for giving that character a tune up could be what keeps me interested.

Although Kelsea, I believe that you bringing up this issue of you wanting to tell people what characters you want them to play for your own benefit is proof that you either have become or are becoming corrupt. I can only assume the Mods are being corrupted by you as well.

I shall inform the revolution that they now have a good reason to overthrow you.

I see no big problem on doing that. Most people that plays/played old school RPG's/adventure games on console ( like Final Fantasy ) already experienced what is to play a already set up role. Actors do it all the time, as most of them doesn't write their own characters.
But, as the activity here is way more related to creation work than actual acting, it might be not interesting to play as a character type or personality that the writer isn't familiar with, or it's not appealing to them, unless they're good writers and enjoy the actual writing, not just the RP fantasies on the subject of the stories.
So, it has to be, of course, an agreement, with some favor exchanges envolved, perhaps.

It can be great in some sense sometimes, Actually in some cases I have had a lot of fun when It comes to make a character to do something fun with others, I have actually made characters for the purpose of doing stories and rping with others, and they have turned out great.

Sometimes it can be great, and sometimes it can fail, as everything can. I would say that it's a fair idea and that It perhaps should be exercised a bit more <img src=

I wouldn't mind, so long as I (1) liked the character suggestion, and (2) thought I could write that character effectively. Otherwise, I would pass up on the suggestion.
