You americans will never understand the profound implications and far-reaching impact of donning a mask to wrestle. You think the mask is a prop a *shudders* gimmick. It is not.
There are deep meanings associated with it.
When you see the world thru the eyes of the mask your perception changes because you are ultimately a different person. The dialogue between the observer and the observed has been redefined.
The mask is worn on the outside but it is an internal process of re-inventing oneself. It is a purely introspective act that a culture as extrovert as yours cannot fully understand. You don't wear a mask to hide who you are but to show who you are. You aren't trying to remain anonymous when you wear ir but to be recognized above the masses. When you wear a mask you become the son of nothingness. Your beginnings are your own, since the mask is a construct of your own volition. Only when wearing a mask you are truly yourself.
This also appeals to the intrinsic fataliast and hermetic nature of Mexican culture. Another reason why you Americans will never get the Day of the Dead thing. The mask not only isolates you from past and present but also from the future. In donning it you become a hermit. Outside from the restrain of a society with deeply internalized moral and civic codes, and by the act of being outside of it, one becomes capable of doing the unexpected, the impossible and extraordinary...of becoming a hero.
The subtle art of masked wrestling is beyond the grasp of your limited understandings.
You suck
And you don't have a pic

If that's how you define a masked wrestler...I think I tried to capture that actual essence rather well o.o' Mask=different personalities....
But alas...I do suck....no picture makes me sad....why couldn't I have been blessed with any artistic skill!?! I has the picture in my mind, but if I tried to put it to paper...the paper itself would burn out of embarrassment.

Re: YAY?!
As a childtime admirer of Tiger Mask i thank you for this definition of what a masked wrestler is. It has always surprised me how the mexican and japanese meaning of wearing a mask on the ring are very similar in their their embodying moral and existential values. In the mexican culture a masked wrestler becomes a sort of mythological character, annihilating the old himself to then be reconstructed in connection with the ancient spirits and pagan gods as a "bringer of justice". Similarly, the japanese mask represents the spiritual powers of their mythological traditions. The wrestler who accepts to wear a mask decides to bend those demonic energies to a righteous aim, assuming the risk to be consumed and become a demon if he proves to be unworthy.
I'd not go so far to say that north american culture is totally and unable to catch the deep meanings of wearing a mask, though they sometimes have the bad habit to consider any inner implication of a problem as a waste of time: the complexity of Peter Parker's personality is probably not so far from your definition of a masked hero.

Re: YAY?!
First, Kitten, you're full of crap. You could've saved yourself a lot of time and just written "I'm better than you". Also, mexico is shaped like a cornucopia.
Second, I love spider-man. Taylor's named after him.
