Boxing Information

Strategy: Mimi is very good at one thing, and that’s running away. Quickly outmatched in direct confrontations, she sticks to her opponents blind spots and tries to stay too fast to notice. Mimi doesn't have the confidence or skill to go for knockouts. The only way she knows how to beat someone is a death by a thousand cuts. She’s squirrely and her speed makes her a difficult target. Once her opponent starts getting into a rhythm with her, it's usually downhill from there.
Class: Flyweight
Type: Hopeless Boxing
Style: Orthodox
Preferred Matches: Classic Boxing
Signature Move:
Petal Drizzle - Mimi throws a reluctant corkscrew punch into her opponent’s face. A solid hit is enough to throw her opponent back and give her some breathing room.
- In Action:
Physical Stats
Endurance: ★★☆☆☆
- Details:
- Mimi keeps in shape, but she’s just below the mark for a professional boxer. She’ll be the first to go in a slugfest.
- Details:
- Mimi isn’t too beefy, but can make up for it with rapid fire hits.
- Details:
- Evasion is Mimi’s best talent. Quick on her feet and swift with her jabs but not much else. She’s fast but a long way from the top.
- Details:
- Basically made of paper, her guard quickly gives way to attacks with decent power behind them.
- Details:
- Has a beginner’s experience with boxing; basic combinations and counters. It wouldn’t take much to outpace her going head-to-head.
Boxing Stats
Power: ★★☆☆☆
- Details:
- Throws a solid punch when she has good footing. It doesn't hit quite the same when she’s under pressure, though.
- Details:
- While Mimi usually sticks to one speed, she’s surprisingly good at keeping her footing and out of danger. She isn’t taken off balance as easily as you’d think.
- Details:
- Mimi is glass from head-to-toe and can get ripped apart easily by direct hits. Even glancing blows can throw her off. She’s not built for the kind of punishment this sport will dish out on the regular.
- Details:
- Basic counters and the ability to exploit an obvious opening. She won’t get past a more seasoned opponent.

Characteristics

Personality: There’s no better descriptor for Mimi than “mousey”. At first, you may think it's because of her timidity and how shy she seems to be around new people. But she really does sound like a mouse when she’s scared.
And she’s scared a lot, especially in the ring. Commentators around the US have desperately attempted to make it sound like part of her strategy to confuse the opponent and catch them off guard. No. Mimi genuinely, honestly, seriously hates confrontation. Nothing drains her confidence like outright hostility, especially from someone that seems to have it out for her.
She liked her life when things were normal and tries to carry on as if it still is. Mimi worships order and organization. She couldn't survive her day without planning meticulously in advance. Keeping busy is how she soothes her mind and she finds solace in quiet moments free from responsibility. A raised optimist, Mimi tries to make the best of any situation. Her overachieving nature has led her to develop some nervous tics when she feels she isn’t living up to expectations. When she’s focused on herself, her busybody attitude seems to have her hopping from one interest to the next. Mimi wears a lot of hats as a result; a young woman of unlimited potential for whatever she sets her mind to.

Background
______________________________________
Mimi is trying to go into politics. She’s not sure how this happened.
As a small-town girl from an unremarkable upbringing with a typical education, she remembered being excited when she managed to land a big-time internship with the National Diet. It went really well too. Attentive, coordinated, resourceful. Mimi was a star secretary that immersed herself into the ever-changing international affairs of Japan. It was everything she dreamed of when she was younger.
She wasn't the kind of girl you would expect to meet at a boxing gym and Mimi would agree with you. Her boyfriend trained there a lot and, wanting to be a supportive girlfriend, Mimi went there to cheer him on at a couple of his matches. The last one he beat handily with a KO jab. In the aftermath, Mimi ended up getting sort of swept in the positive energy with him and his gym buddies. They had some "for fun" sparring and boxing in the ring afterward. Mimi threw some hooks at another guy, they took photos, had a group hug, and left for drinks. That should have been that, right?
Sure. Until one of those photos made its way to her boss in the Diet.
Mr. Shibazaki wasn't exactly what one would call a reputable representative. There were all sorts of baseless rumors lingering in the ether around him but nothing that held water. It took being a woman working in his office to understand the atmosphere his very presence seemed to perpetuate. By virtue of having an uncommonly large staff and working under a supervisor, Mimi was able to avoid his gaze. Then seemingly overnight she started noticing odd stares, parting glances, and brushes on the shoulders in close meetings.
After work, Mimi was just about to enter her vehicle when Mr. Shibazaki approached and asked her for a favor. A mutual "friend" was having trouble getting his small-time boxing promotion off the ground. His organization promoted women's "involvement and empowerment in athletics", whatever that meant. Shibazaki assured Mimi it would do great things for his office to have a strong, independent female athlete to count among his staff. Even if his tone had been the least bit convincing, Mimi would have (sheepishly) declined the offer. But then he insinuated that he could find someone with her work ethic another position in the Diet. Something permanent. He would even write a glowing recommendation for her.
And if she refused, he could choose to write something...else entirely.
Mimi was right to be hesitant on the night of her first match. An almost entirely male audience, a shady dark room, and copious amounts of alcohol being served painted a pretty picture of what the Japanese girl was in for before she even stepped into the ring. Though her attention should have been less on them and more on the underclothed street-tough they forced her to fight. After being demolished in a matter of minutes, Mimi assumed that would be the end of it.
Too bad for her. She had the looks and the energy to sell quite a few seats. With the help of some three-times-a-week drills from her boyfriend, she could just about manage to keep up a proper guard before her debut. Her record wasn’t exactly what one would call “stellar”. The incredibly low proportion of victories she managed to get were either by disqualification when some of her hot-tempered opponents lost patience with her running away "act" and attacked outside of the proper conduct by trying to, more often than not, beat her face into a mush resembling leftover pasta with gray matter meatballs. Or the time would run out and Mimi would get lucky with the points. Either way, it was clear that she wasn't meant for bigger things.
That was what made it even more surprising when an AFW recruiter showed up to her “supposed to be” last match. She’d heard of the federation before - hard not to, in her part of the world - but Mimi was one of the few that usually kept out of the loop. Despite being a wrestling promotion last she heard, their boxing arena was only just starting to develop some traction and they were offering a big payout to any newcomers willing to touch gloves, regardless of skill or experience.
As badly as her stomach was killing her at the thought of standing in a big-time arena like that, she couldn’t very well turn back now. Besides, if the place was just getting on its feet, she’d be surrounded by fresh faces like herself. It wasn’t like she was joining the UFC. Maybe this was her chance to start fresh. Redeem herself. Maybe even meet people like her and get a little stronger.
What was the worst that could happen?
Fun Facts:
-Mimi is a hardcore clubber. One of her favorite ways to unwind after a stressful day at the office is with blaring music and a packed venue.
-That goes for her drinks too. She may look like a lightweight, but she hasn’t met a single person that can outlast her at the bar. Don't underestimate Japanese officeworkers.
-Statistics are an odd obsession for her. Dosen't matter what about. Crime, space, fishing, geothermal energy. On any given topic, she'll have a throwaway factoid to blurt out whenever she might get the chance.
