Combat Information
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Combat Attitude: No matter the type of fight, Koyuki Sanada gives no quarter and expects none in return. Her goal is nothing short of the complete annihilation of the opposition. She's not looking to score points or edge out a razor-thin decision or settle for a pin. Nope, her sole aim in any martial contest is to make sure that she's the last woman standing in the ring by blood and sweat and blood and blood and more blood. The actual victory condition is often a secondary concern, and the only win she seeks is on her own terms, not the structured ruleset of some archaic sports commission or circus freak wrestling league. Driven by a pathological need for both a violent adrenaline rush and an expression of her martial superiority. Koyuki is committed to any fight 101% -no matter how insignificant or frivolous or lewd- and demands the same from all her opponents.
Despite being a notorious Yakuza Captain, Koyuki's
As far as Koyuki Sanada is concerned, there are only two real outcomes in a fight: win decisively or go out bloody and battered on your shield. Anyone who can do either against her is worthy of her respect. Anyone who can't even manage the latter is a loser barely worthy of contempt.
Koyuki sees herself as the heaven-sent child of martial arts, a prodigy of the fist with no equal.
And she wouldn't have it any other way. A life without
Combat Strategy: Many eastern martial arts preach the zen of water, of its adaptability and formlessness as a guiding philosophy for both war and life - yet so many of them fail to practice what they preach. They have found themselves mired in tradition, trapped in the stylistic limitations of their own dead styles, and passing on martial guidance that sees no reinvention, innovation, or advancement of the style itself. Entire martial bloodlines have been diluted by indolence and complacency, and dojos have become tombs to bury names with weight but no substance - and it is a well-deserved fate, for they draw their beliefs from the hand-me-downs of twisted Chinese philosophies. Dekishi-Ryu, however, has not forgotten the true waters of old Shinto before Buddhism and Taoism poisoned Japan with its foreign venom. Water gives life. Water cleanses. Water cycles into the air and back into the earth below. Water-
Water erodes. Water rots.
Water drowns.
Koyuki's expression of Dekishi-Ryu is exactly that: dragging someone into deep water and holding them down until they drown mind, body, and soul. She strikes hard, strikes fast, and she strikes with the intent to brutalize with each blow. She walks into any arena knowing she's the stronger, faster, and more durable woman, and for anyone that she can't blitz in under a minute, she will drag them into a war of attrition until they're on the verge of exhaustion before going for the kill. Punches, kicks, elbows, knees, standing grappling, foot stomps, nukite hand thrusts, chops, palm strikes, frickin biting - her style often comes across as a trained Japanese martial artist in an all-out brawl, constantly alternating her offenses between traditional Japanese martial moves and a more precise, vicious version of what you would see in a back-alley brawl.
It's easy to surmise that Koyuki is a mere brute coasting on her well-honed physical conditioning and martial training to finish fights. But while she is a zealot and while she can very reckless, she is not tactically stupid. Quite the opposite, in fact. Like its Muromachi-era parent style Koga-Ryu, Dekishi-Ryu's core tenet is misdirection, deception, flexibility, and unpredictability. Like the rainstorm that comes and goes without warning, her true crippling blows remain unseen behind her relentless offense. Her vast array of strikes serves to constantly keep her opponents on their toes - or to lure them into complacency by spamming the same strikes only to pull out something else once they think they have learned acclimated to her sequences. Alternating the timing of her strikes, feigning injuries and exhaustion, constantly switching stances, fake tells, downplaying her strength and speed, verbally assaulting insecurities - Koyuki does not come into a fight without her tricks and she doesn't care a whiff about the moral populism of sportsmanship. All is fair in war and war. In a drawn-out fight with an opponent she cant just beat down, Koyuki gradually adapts to her opponent's combat nuances, while offering as little of her own as possible.
While she prefers a standing fight and going to the ground is never her first, second, or third choice, Koyuki can handle herself well down below. Dekishi-Ryu's repertoire of offensive groundwork consists, fittingly for its drowning motif, primarily of chokes and smothering positional grappling to set up strikes. That being said, Koyuki would much prefer escaping the ground and returning to striking after a brief skirmish. Usually being the operative word, of course. Koyuki can be capricious on how her ego needs to be soothed, and a submission specialist being broken by their own game is just the right balm for it.
Type: Erratic Pressure Juggernaut

Physical Stats
Endurance:★★★★★
- Details:
- Exhaustion is for other people. Pain is just a word. Surrender is the coward's way. Koyuki's stamina, pain tolerance, and durability are inhuman, so much so that she often comes across as impervious to pain and injury. Her reaction to anything short of a crippling blow is eerily muted and she'll often take big hits head-on and power through them just to demoralize the opposition. But no one is invincible. Attrition makes fools of even the hardiest martial combatant. She can be put to sleep - but the road there is a long and arduous one and few can boast that they have accomplished it.
- Details:
- A lifetime of intense physical conditioning has made Koyuki a physical monster even by the standards of her size. She hits hard and she hits heavy, and even a moderate blow is enough to drop a lesser woman flat on her back.
- Details:
- Perhaps one might get the impression that, like some of the larger powerhouse wrestlers of AFW, Koyuki would be a lumbering brute that sacrificed speed for raw strength. They would be wrong. They would be very wrong. Koyuki walks, runs, and fights with the cat-like grace and poise of a
ninjatrained ballerina. All lean muscle, she's explosively fast, often moving before most opponents can even react. What she lacks in applied defense, she makes up for with a stunning weave of lightning-fast offense that doesn't let up until the opposition is a smear upon the floor.
- Details:
- As the old saying goes: The best defense is
preemptive murderan overwhelmingly unpredictable offense meticulously calculated to crush the opposition, shatter their resolve, steal their self-respect, kill everything they love right down to the flowers in their garden, and then burn down their house. If Koyuki parries or slips or clinches, it is to advance and press her offense, not to turtle up and avoid damage. Her guard is loose at best, non-existent at worst to eliminate tells and better facilitate unorthodox striking. Her distance control is purely focused on how quickly and viciously she can breach the pocket to brutalize an opponent and with nary a care on whether the opposition can do the same. If she is on the backfoot more often than not in a fight, she has already lost. Defense, as far as Koyuki Sanada is concerned, is for tortoises, and those fuckers are going extinct sooner rather than later.
- Details:
- Dekishi-Ryu is divided informally into the Ambush and Camouflage katas; offense and defense. Combined, it is one of the most vicious, impenetrable Ansatsukens in the world, both the jaws of the crocodile and the river that shields it in the time before the next kill. Separated, it is a powerful but incomplete style, with its flexibility and adaptative focus limited by the scope of a single kata's mastery. Koyuki is a master of the Ambush facet of Dekishi-Ryu and whatever progress she has made in the Camouflage facet has since been abandoned or incorporated, quite imperfectly, into the Ambush facet. She's shored up the difference by incorporating pieces of martial styles she's been exposed to over the years but, while effective, still leaves too much room for further optimization and improvement. Still, it makes her one of the most skilled martial artists in the world - but she could be so much more if she weren't limited by her ego, narrow-mindedness, and martial impatience.
omg she's a kung-fu zoomer

- Details:
- Footwork allows a martial artist to do 3 things: hit harder, get into position to hit harder, and get out of danger before the opposition hits hard back. Koyuki is very, very good at the first two items. Her footwork is a relentless, rhymical advance that marches down the opposition, fucks with their momentum, aims for every blindspot, and allows her brutal striking to shine. Retreat is not in her playbook - but on the rare occasions she's forced to do so, her defensive footwork is often clumsy, unfocused, and stilted.
- Details:
- Openings are for dicks and people looking for a job. Koyuki Sanada doesn't wait for the door to open, she smashes it down first. Exploiting little windows of vulnerability in her opponent's technique is the last thing on her mind.

Biography:
Personality:
Born into the life of a Yakuza princess, Koyuki embodies a much older, more traditional, much more brutal way of thinking. She a rigid believer in family and clan, and everyone outside those two items are, well, either assets, liabilities, or obstacles. She's an ambitious, hungry young woman who seeks out conquest in both the financial ventures of the Yakuza as well the martial conquests of the arena - and she aims to excel in both of them as she does all things in life. Koyuki is not without honor - but it's an old, pseudo-bushido-like honor where you either meet her standards of excellence and gain her respect or fall to the wayside in mediocrity. She's a brutal, no-nonsense opponent who will ravage and fuck and do whatever it takes to win - but she's no true sadist, and while she enjoys winning (who doesn't >_>), post-match humiliation is often beneath her unless it was dealed to her first during the match.
Koyuki is a staunch Japanese nationalist. She loathes Americans, hates the french, thinks the British talk like cartoons, despise koreans, and has no small amount of opinions of other nationalities. She does, however, think personal merit far triumphs place of birth, and has no problem extending respect to worthy adversaries. Frankly, she doesn't even like the average Japanese all that much. She believes Japan is decades in decline from a powerful militant past, and she earnestly hopes for Japan -and its people- to reclaim their gods-given heritage.
Outside the ring, Koyuki's relatively amicable for a person of her vocation. She's terse, coldly composed, can be a bit snide, and loathes unnecessary small talk for its own sake - but she's not particularly cruel or mean when there's no reason to be. If she has no business with you, well, then she has no business with you.

Facts of Character:
- Despite visual evidence to the contrary, Koyuki doesn't actually smoke or drink much. Her body is a temple, after all, and vice stains its pristine walls. She does it to keep up cultural appearances for her subordinates, peers, and bosses. Her cigarettes are nicotine-free and green tea and she drinks sake.
- Is a staunch Shintoist vegan. How she reconciles the dissonance between her life and her beliefs is anyone's guess.
- The glasses she wears aren't cosmetic outside fights; she's terribly near-sighted, paranoid about contact lenses, and Lasik is not an option.
- Is a martial arts geek to the nth degree. She's an encyclopedia of both common and obscure martial styles, although you'll never get an objective recounting of their histories and nuances out of her, just where they failed.
- Loves Japanese Jazz and Enka
- Quadrilingual; Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, and English. In descending level of competence of course. Her English is shoddy and unpractised. Her Korean is conversational and a necessity owing to the number of ethnic Koreans in the Yakuza. Her Mandarin is surprisingly good and almost completely unaccented... mostly because she hates the Chinese mainlanders that much more than all the other foreigners combined and wants no misunderstanding when it comes to asserting her feelings towards them.
- She won't admit it to anyone, but she adores pokemon. It's one of the few fixtures of pop culture she's consistently kept up with. Sure, it's a morally bankrupt commercially-motivated blight upon reality, but scyther's so adorable! The Pokemon Centre in Nihonbashi has almost four times the audits, several open investigations, and at least one undercover tokyo metro officer planted in its full-time staff because she visits there once per month. Are there drugs in the Totodile plushies, they asked cynically. No, just a little girl's love for her pre-color gameboy.
- Second guilty pleasure: golf. It's a soft hobby that hits right in her happy place.
