Responsibilities:

As a referee, Mei is responsible for giving air, impartial judgements to matches and their outcomes. Should things get too violent, she is responsible for calling off the match or disqualifying competitors should they be caught cheating or breaking official rules. As an announcer, she is in charge with keeping the crowd enraptured with the combat at hand, helping illustrate competitors' moves and styles in a way that makes them appealing as well as marketable. She is in charge of knowing the fighters finishing moves and signature attacks while giving fun and lighthearted commentary.

However, in practice she often gets the short end of the stick. As a referee, she tends to get punched, smacked, hit, or even used as a weapon. Mei is constantly in a pinch, narrowly avoiding what could be serious injuries while usually walking away with a fresh set of bruises. As a commentator, she doesn’t get much better. Her table is often used as a sort of landing pad for airborne wrestlers, smashing her equipment, papers, and the scripts she had written beforehand with all of the combatants' information. Sadly, most equipment destroyed comes out of her paycheck, leaving her broken hearted when such incidents occur.

Appearance:

Mei Travis is a small, thin girl with heavy bags under her eyes and short hair that she herself cut. She can be thought of as rather cute should she wear makeup and hide her fatigue, but she had been working to the point of not caring much about her appearance, more interested in nursing the many wounds she hides. Mementoes of the fighters she is supposed to work with. While she occasionally wears a bandage, Mei usually appears worn out and tired when alone by herself but can seem nervous and a bit too eager to please when a superior comes around.


Personality:

Mei Travis is something of a Glass Half-Empty type of girl. She sees the world around her as a sort of lottery that can not be changed no matter how hard she tries to do so. Oftentimes, she sets herself up for disappointment when it comes to opportunities such as job interviews, dates, or even simple decisions. She assumes the worst will happen to her at any given time in an attempt to protect herself from being let down, but still clings to the wrongs done to her in order to hold herself above everyone else. She can be incredibly reclusive, and often has a hard time speaking to other people outside of work. She usually assumes no one is really interested in her, and as a result often pushes people away in order to keep herself emotionally safe.

At work, she maintains a mindset that she herself thinks is broken. She works hard, does her job, and tries her best to make the audience and crowd happy in an attempt to earn favor with her superiors and therefore earn opportunities to rise through the company. This of course never comes to be. Instead, she often finds herself buried in work as a result, and terrified when a superior like Maximillian actually comes around. She has a nasty habit of saying “Yes” at work, and as a result has fallen behind a few projects, constantly giving her the feeling of being left behind and unwanted.

A woman whose entire job is to smile and excite the crowd, she often finds her face to be a mask for the empty pit in her stomach that wants little more than to be praised and appreciated by her peers.


Past/History:

Born in a mixed family, Mei Travis was an average girl raised with dreams, love, care, and the warm hearts of friends. She did everything normal children did like watch movies, play with toys and participate in school activities. While she was never exceptionally good at anything, she managed to keep up with her classmates all the way to senior year, where her family finally moved to a new home the beginning of her final year of school. A new environment with new faces and new people to meet, one might have thought Mei would take this chance to grow and create new relationships and friendships while maintaining the ones she had made in the past.

In truth, she didn’t. Rather than make friends with the new groups of people that she would hardly see after the year was over, Mei would throw herself into her academics and try to focus on the future. Spurning her social life, Mei became a top student in her new school, getting top marks in tests and school work. She graduated hardly knowing anyone, and would go onto university for the next few years to further improve her education.

But rather than get a job or profession she had studied for, she could only manage to land a position in one of the most soul crushing, dream shattering professions the world had ever seen: Fast food retail. She spent her life there, day in and day out working as hard as she could, getting more positive reviews and comments then the rest of her co-workers combined! She worked late when they asked her to, came in early when they asked her to. She worked hard to stand out above the rest of her crew, and the thanks she got for it?

A sweet goodbye as they laid her off.

And just like that, her years of work were gone. Down the drain! Her loyalty was misplaced, and now she was without a job and without a purpose. Her schooling was useless without experience, and with no job willing to hire her she couldn’t gather any of the experience she needed. Soon, she would have to return to her parents home, back to square one of her life all over again.

That was, until she noticed a flyer for a local combat federation. Looking it over, it seemed they were desperate for staff, and they certainly paid well. Though Mei couldn’t qualify as a fighter, there were other positions she could apply for! Those jobs paid a bit less, but they offered a contract so a sudden release would be difficult! Seeing as she needed a job, she sent in her resume and got a reply back the very next day. They were interested in giving her a position!

What had seemed like a blessing and an opportunity to climb the ladder of the federation through hard work and great results turned out to be just another opportunity to get screamed at, overworked, and undervalued. Now, instead of angry customers yelling derogatory remarks about wrong orders, she was getting smacked around by men and women twice her size for doing her job properly. Wrestlers were an aggressive bunch, and soon she found herself getting smacked with chairs, punched, kicked, and even involved in some of the major beatdowns. And that contract she signed? It made it so she couldn’t do anything about it other than to try and not get hit. That contract made it so that she had to work for them exclusively, or pay a massive fine for breaching the contract. So, there she has been working for over six years…

And it doesn’t look like that's about to end anytime soon…

Group Think-Mei is easily susceptible to group thinking, and can be pushed along to go with an idea even if she doesn’t actually agree with it.

Addict- Mei has taken and given up numerous bad habits that occur due to her high stress levels. Some of which include Drinking and Smoking. Ironically, this has only added to her stress, and on occasion she does break her vice.

Do you hate me?- It is important to note that Mei doesn’t dislike the wrestlers she works with. She is hesitant to join them, but she can easily be bullied or coerced into sitting with them at lunch. Part of her weak willed nature.

Panic Attack- Mei gets an extreme spike in her stress levels whenever a General Manager comes into sight. It doesn’t matter if they see her or not, she tends to panic, and try her best to look busy or avoid them altogether.

Black Cat- Mei has notoriously bad luck. She had never won a game before against a real opponent, and her recommendations almost always go wrong should someone choose to follow them.
