Type: Capoeira and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Strategy: Lorena prefers to keep things fun and loose, though her entertainment normally comes at the expense of her opposition. Highly mobile and flighty, she will make good use of her heavy striking and befuddling movements through capoeira to out maneuver her opponents and hit them from odd angles until they catch wise to this and learn to defend against it.

Where she goes from there depends on the opponent and what she’s learned. Her overall tactics will normally lean into a striking game with counter holds, but if she is against an unskilled or weak opponent it is pretty likely she will abuse them with takedowns and submissions just to hold onto control. While not malicious in intent, she is highly competitive and won’t often give her opponents time to recover or breath unless she needs a moment herself. Unseasoned competitors will find themselves being battered and locked into hold after hold.

Mata Leão: Commonly known to most as a rear naked choke, Lorena employs her own variant with brutal effectiveness. The application will change based on the opponent, the position, and whatever her foe might be wearing as she is not above using their clothing to aid in cinching the hold.

Kani Basami: A jumping scissor takedown which sees very little use of tournament… mostly because it’s generally a banned maneuver. Incredibly effective at taking an opponent to the mat and causing crippling damage to her opponents legs in the process. She will transition this takedown into a variety of holds.

Enxurrada: Snappy jumping headscissor hold not all that unlike a hurricanrana. Lorena will grab hold of an opponents arm, using it to vault herself up and around behind them, hooking a leg around their head, she locks in a scissor hold while swinging her momentum to fling her opponent to the mat, still within her hold.

Chute de Carrossel: Slipping down to plant a palm to the mat, Lorena flips briefly upside down to send a cartwheel kick at unsuspecting opponents to cut through their defenses or catch them in a counter strike.

Relâmpago: Grabbing hold of an opponents arm, she lifts it up, twisting the limb at the forearm and wrists as she ducks under it to deliver an unguarded kick to the opponents face.

Queda do Império:When an opponent is face down, Lorena drops her weight on their back and scissors one of their arms between her legs. She will then draw their other arm back beneath her armpit, looping both of her arms around the opponents neck to wrench them backwards.

Olho da Tempestade: A whirlwind of capoeria spinning back kicks, cutting off her opponents as she goes in for the kill. She has been known for knocking opponents out instantly with this move.

Nuvens de Despedida: Lorena draws her opponent forward onto the mat towards her while she is on her back. Kicking a leg up behind them, she will reach over their shoulder to hook her leg around and tuck her foot under the opponents chin, simultaneously trapping one of their arms. She will often times use her other leg to wrap around behind the opponent's back as well to hold them steady. From here she will either hug the opponents head and pull them down into her leg, using her foot to apply pressure, or take hold of her feel to physically push it up into the opponents neck to choke them out.

Personality: Lorena practically oozes confidence to the point she comes across to some as being arrogant. This generally isn't intentional, but has been known to rub people the wrong way. She is a thrill seeker above most things, wanting to try all sorts of unique experiences and challenge herself in exciting new ways.

When not pitted against someone in a competition, inside or outside of a ring, she is fairly easy going, at least when it comes to recreation. She is huge into personal fitness, hitting the gym super hard when it comes to working out, training, and keeping a good handle on her diet. A closet gym-head, she bonds well with other people with similar rigorous regiments.

She is supportive of people who put forth a good effort, offering tips to improve when possible. On the flip side of this however she has a low tolerance towards quitters, cheaters, and excuse makers. As a result she will oftentimes go out of her way to target them as a point of public humiliation as a means to humble them up a bit.

Past/History:

Lorena was raised in Brazil within the heart of Rocinha. No real father to speak of and a mother that passed away when she was too young to recall, she found herself jam packed into a communal home with her aunt, uncle, and cousins. In a household dominated by make influences, she learned early to toughen up and fend for herself because tears afforded her no comforts, only belittlement for being too weak to look after herself. It was a motivating factor that drove her to keep up with her cousins, using family as a shield from people who would seem to do them hard.

Her youth was mired with unsavory behavior. She took part in carjackings, household robberies, and even a handful of muggings before she was even fifteen. Unlike her cousins however, she derived no job from any of that and any profits made were tainted by the thoughts of living people worse off. Her moral compass drove her away from that life, instead turning to self improvement.

While she couldn't afford to seek out proper training, she would sneak into schools devoted to martial prowess and soak in lessons, practicing on her own time what she had learned in secret. She would go on to use what she learned to perform in the streets, catching the eyes of locals and the odd few tourists accompanied by locals guides.

During out of these performances she was confronted by a teacher at a school she had secretly attended. Apparently some of her techniques were ones specific to the school and they didn't take kindly towards them being performed on the streets. So she brokered a deal to join them and work for the school in return she would stop performing. While reluctant at first, they would eventually cave and find a place for them.

Training became a way of life for her over the years, perfecting her technique and expanding out into other fields to broaden her horizons. It wasn't long before she was giving veterans of the school a run for their money in spars despite how "undisciplined" she was. Her talent didn't go unnoticed by her family when her cousins came knocking with a new opportunity… cage fighting. No hurting innocent people, just slugging it out with someone else for money.

She accepted.

Her first fights were sloppy and brutal, as she was shoot unprepared for what a real fight would be like over the sparring she had become so accustomed to. While she came away half beat to death, she did so as the victor with a purse larger than any amount of money she had ever laid eyes on. So she trained harder, recovered, and did it again… And again... and again.

Fights became easier, turn around became greater, and her renown in the cage reached far beyond Rocinha. She drew interest of someone who had offered to manage her, offering a large sum of money to sign her. Riding high on success, her local came, and the feeling she was untouchable she signed on the dotted line.

Things were profitable as she tore through the ranks of the underground league leaving competitor after competitor in the dust. Then she had reached the pinnacle. A prize fight with an opponent from Rondônia.

She was favored to win, having the far more impressive record under her belt but when her manager came to her before the match, he let her know one very important detail about the match. She had to lose. It wasn't a matter simply of money, it was one of connection. The other fighter had gang connections and they wanted their fighter to take home the victory. Her manager made it very clear that if she didn't take a dive, it was not only the end of her career, but possibly her life.

She knocked her opponent out in the first round with her trademark kick… then went on the run.

It took much of her strained connections and money she had made over the years to safely escape Brazil, but she found herself traveling the world trying to get as far away as she could. Eventually though, the call of the fight was too strong and she sought out avenues to express herself. She would happen upon AFW later and quickly make a deal to join up. While she is coming in under a rookie's pay, her experience abroad is sure to turn heads as she starts dropping veterans in the ring. They had no idea of who they had just unleashed on their roster.

Fun Facts:

Sun and Sand: Lorena loves chilling at the beach. The smell and sound of the ocean, people watching, and ice cream stands are all positives in her book. She generally goes for the sole purpose of getting a tan and having a bit of "me" time to herself. If she is feeling social though, she will try and jump into a volleyball game and show some people how it's done.

The Living Storm: Lorena didn't brand herself with the nickname she carries, it was given to her within the fighting cages of Brazil. Described as mesmerizing and fluid to behold in motion but as deadly as a flash flood. Many competitors have fallen victim to her whirling kicks, capable of wiping out would be opponents out in a single strike. While her reputation has stayed locked away in the cages of Brazil, soon Japan will get a taste of what made her such a hot commodity.

Forever Tourist: She likes knick knacks and trinkets of others cultures, finding the novelty of them fun. Her apartment is littered with little junky souvenirs from her travels. Despite their lack of rarity or value, she treasures them all the same as reminders of where she has been and how far she has come.
