Ryu and Ataru - demon hunters

RYU

Fighting style: spiritual martial arts: combining martial arts and spiritual pressure to obtain stronger attacks. Requires "serene mind" (read note at the bottom).
Special techniques:
- Shoryuken: Spiritual force-empowered uppercut. Requires to charge Chi into a fist for a few moments. Easy to predict but potential one-punch KO if hitting the target.
- Evil Stopper: Chi-empowered palm strike. If hitting, it may propel opponents several yards backwards, with good chances of stunning them.
- Dragon's Fang: Chi-enhanced jumping axe kick.
- Determination: Alternative use of Spiritual Pressure aimed at partly restore Ryu's strenght and stamina. Requires time and concentration to work; can be used only once or twice a day.

Personality: Ryu is everything you expect from a young handsome (and somewhat naive) hero: Brave, generous, friendly, loyal. Always seeking for new challenges and eager to improve his skills.
When it comes to social relationships, Ryu is a simple guy in the good way: when he laughs, his laughter is sounding and whole hearted. When he is angry, he will yell (and beat the shit out of you in the rare cases you really deserved it), but he is unable to hold a grudge.  
And when he is flustered, he will most definitely blush... Which happens more frequently than he'd like to admit, being a young demon hunter in a world where most of the bad guys are, matter of factly, bad ladies! And often extremely sexy and powerful ones at it.
Travelling the world together with his young cousin Ataru and Okami the half werewolf, Ryu is on a perpetual quest to protect the innocent and fight the evil.
He is not entirely persuaded about Ataru's belief that a world of pacific cohexistence between humans and monstergirls, witches and all the other lewd female creatures out there is possible. But because it's Ataru, Ryu will stand by his side to enforce that dream of cohexistence. Ataru is the wisest boy he knows after all. Certainly wiser than Okami ^^'

ATARU

Powers: Chi-enhanced attack and defense. Novice-level knowledge of magic.
Fighting style: Defensive martial arts empowered by spiritual energy. Magical attacks, canalized by the 'elemental wand' he inherited from his grandfather (still at apprentice level with them).

Special techniques:
- Deflection:  Chi-empowered judo-throws or sweeps, aimed at unbalancing attackers and stun them with the extra-push provided by spiritual pressure. Useful against big strong foes, this technique depends on a state of concentration known as "serene mind" , making it weaker when Ataru is flustered/aroused (check the note on 'serene state')
- Spiritual Shield: The spiritual pressure is concentrated around one arm, surrounding it with a glowing barrier that will lessen the effect of physical attacks. Like every Chi-based technique, it consumes stamina and its effectiveness ratio depends on "serene mind".
- Elemental Heal: Healing technique combining Spiritual Pressure and Elemental mMgic to partly recover strenght and stamina. Can be applied on other persons.
- Elemental Attack!: Summoning either Earth, Water, Wind or Fire to throw a specic Elemental attack.... With severe risk of backfire at Ataru's current level of Magic.

Practicing with Elemental Magic:

Personality: Ataru may be younger and more timid than Ryu, but the soft-spoken boy compensates with surprising wisdom and reflexiveness for a boy of his age.
Ataru is firmly convinced that the best way to make the world a better place is to improve the lack of mutual understanding between different races and populations, causing fights and troubles and hatred especially between humans and the many powerful female creatures like monstergirls, demongirls, witches, giantesses roaming around this part of the world, which are commonly pointed at as living symbols of lewdness and evil. In order to improve interspecies relations, the young clumsy mage is travelling around the world together with his 2 young companions, resolute to play a role into building a better world.
Stopping human prejudices against those female creatures on one hand, and persuading monstergirls that human males are not sexual preys on the other hand seems to be quite a hard work but, together with Ryu and Okami, Ataru believes that the world will get there someday, using diplomacy if they can, or fighting to enforce peaceful cohexistence if they must.

RYU and ATARU'S STORY:
Orphans since the tender age of 5, the Toranami cousins were raised in the Toranami family dojo by their grandfather, their one and only relative still alive. Grampa-sensei, as the kids used to call him, had loved them from the bottom of his heart, but he was frequently away due to his dangerous job of demon hunter, and he obviously couldn't bring two little boys with him during those scary adventures. So, the little orphans grew up as students (and heirs) of the Toranami Dojo, each of them following their natural inclinations:

Ryu, who was always ready to get into a rumble if it was to defend the weak from harm, became versed in the art of empowering his martial arts moves with spiritual pressure, so that his fists could get stronger to protect the innocent.

Ataru, who was the quiet and reflexive one in spite of being the younger, learned the basics of ancient magic and ancient writings, wanting to become wise in order to help building a better world. But he didn't quit the martial arts trainings too, having understood, along with Ryu, that a better world could not be created by weak hands.

Little they knew that Grampa-sensei had wanted them to train in the dojo so that they could be prepared to inherit his dangerous but necessary work as hunter of the most vicious, lewd and dangerous creatures (which in that region of the world, were represented by embarrassingly, lewd female villainesses, due to some odd joke from the Goddess probably.
Eventually, the sad day came for Ryu and Ataru to take possession of their heritage and become young wandering heroes defending the five realms, lending their helping hand wherever it was needed.

And so, their young carrier of demon hunters begun, until one day they were asked to eliminate a deadly werewolf... only to find out that the horrible beast was, in fact, just a lonely boy. A good guy named Okami, who would soon become their best friend and a precious ally, enough to save saved them from two lust-crazed lamias.
In time, destiny put the three Japanese adventurers on the same path of an exiled Knight named Andrew Stark. Together, the four heroes saved the day defeating the dreaded Demon King sealing him back into his dimension of origin.  
But that's another story ^^

Notes on "Chi"and "serene mind":

- Chi: Also known as spiritual pressure or spiritual energy, it is the life-force aura possessed by all sentient beings.
Only few gifted people have the potential to learn how to summon it as empowerment to their physical ability, usually through a long martial arts training. It's effectiveness is known to depend on the state of mind of the wielder (see serene mind).
Chi-based combat consume strenght and stamina. If abused, it will lead to physical exhaustion.

- Serene mind: The mental state that must be achieved for better use of Chi-based techniques. Mostly, it consists in the ability to temporarily put apart carnal urges, steeling the spiritual energy for a stronger attack or defense.
The weak point of this concentration technique is that "serene mind" can be easily messed up if the warrior is aroused, embarrassed, or subject to sensuous stimulations in general.
But after all, how many chances are there that your foe goes all flirty and seductive on you?
