Character image directory?

I was wondering if we have any sort of thread set up where people can see what character likenesses have been used? Every time I think about making a character, it's hard to know who has been used before and who's still available. I know a bunch of them off-hand, but it's impossible to keep track of everyone.

I searched face claim and character directory in the search bar, but as we all know, the search bar isn't 100% functionally reliable. If such a thing doesn't exist, might I propose the creation of a stickies thread? Whenever a new person creates a character, they can reference that list to make sure their images aren't copying someone else. People with pre-existing characters can post (if applicable) their claims to fill in what we have already.

Thoughts/comments/criticisms/ways to improve this idea? If something like this already exists, I'm really dumb and suck at finding it @.@

Technically one exists in my head, more or less, but not as a thread on the site.

Everyone WANTS one, but it's really kind of hard to actually pull off.

At least, I'm not doing it. It's way too much work for me, especially when I already look at every profile that comes through. And then to have to build a database too. I tried that once and it didn't really get used too much (it wasn't for pictures)

If you're unsure, just ask. It's usually the quickest way.

If the search function worked on the contents of posts, you could just tag your profiles with the name of the character whose pics you're using. But noooooooooooo...

I figured rather than a database, it could just be a single stickies thread where people self-report if they used a character. That name would get added to a list and that's all.

The burden would be on whoever is creating the new character to navigate to this thread and control+F the name of the one they want to use.

Actually, if you put a # tag in front of the name in your bio it will work but I don't think many people know or bothered with it so its not too helpful at the moment.

To search for # tags all you need to do is check the "tags" check box below the search field and the search will be on # tags rather than thread titles (I've tagged up most of my characters with names that I know as well as other helpful tags like "Schoolgirl" or "kawaii" or "hardcore" etc... so you could test it with them)

Maybe their can just be a thread where new people go to post images of characters they want to use, then ask for feedback if it's already been taken or not. Though I guess one of the caveats to that idea is that you spoil the surprise.

It would also be nice, given the lack of a real search function here, to have a way of knowing if your people or people you're interested in following are mentioned or used or brought up in other threads. I guess maybe #'ing them would work, if everyone does it.

Kill has a good idea, that way Tat can just check real quick and know. The only problem is when a new person comes on, they don't want to go through that hassle, they just want to make a character and start. I like the idea of making a data base, but the problem is it would take some one literally days to go through all the characters made and figure out who has what.
