It's gotta be some backstage bullshit. I can't concieve of anyone thinking this would be a good idea without some serious arm-twisting.

With the comment of Tai about del Rio being a diva in mind:
Maybe he lost the belt, realized that he is still as exciting to watch as doing taxes is exciting and will end up in the same spot as he was before he left the WWE, threw a temper tantrum and WWE put the belt back on him.^^

In more awesome news, there's gonna be a women's battle royale on NXT tonight. Nia Jax and Dana Brooke aren't in it, so smart money is on Asuka, which hopefully means we'll be getting the Asuka vs Bayley dream match!

Apparently Del Rio won via dirty means (Barret involvement, since ya know, they can't think anything else to do with him. I know he's injured, but for godsake just let him be the speaker for the LON). Hopefully it would set up for maybe a decent feud, where Kallisto actually gets the title and gets to run with it.

League of Nations either needs to disappear or actually be a proper threat, as opposed to the 'Save Del Rio' crew.

WWE might actually be having a faction thing developing with all these different groups, Wyatts, Outcasts, LON, ECW Originals, and actual acknowledgements of the Bullet Club...can't wait to see how they screw it up.
