Well, we rely pretty heavily on visualizing these matches in our minds, I would say. Picturing rolling green and white mountains and pristine forests as a backdrop is much better than our usual generic sandy beaches. Atlantic City last year was neat in that respect, too, since the Boardwalk was a change from the norm. Alaska offers that same sort of appeal.
As far as theme matches, because of the mixture of cultures and the unique situation of Alaska as this sort of frontier region, there are a lot more possibilities for special matches than other sites. There are probably other places that would have a lot of opportunities for fun matches like that (I can think of a few possibilities for Mexico), but most of the suggested sites so far don't seem to.

Re: Summer Splash 2015!
That sounds like a great place to put a vacation home....I just dunno about an actual wrestling ring.
I mean, I suppose an outdoor arena could work, if we made one up from scratch, though personally, I like the idea of using real sports arena's for AFW PPVs.
I could, I guess, see it for Avalanche, maybe, if like, many other better places were ruled out first.

Re: Summer Splash 2015!
So the only way that beach stuff can be interesting again is if it's cold and not on a beach? I don't personally go for the goofier match types, so I don't really have a horse in that race, but what match types does Alaska have available to it?
And I think maybe you had this one idea and haven't really explored any others. It's a great big world out there.

Re: Summer Splash 2015!
Alaska has match types by virtue of its distinct history and rich tourism culture. Matches can take place in kayaks. You could have a title match contract on top of a totem pole. You can have matches on the cruise ships going up the Alaskan coastline. You could even go up into the colder reaches of the state to do matches, if that were to interest people.
As far as these sorts of things go, there are certainly other places that have similarly rich cultures that can provide these sorts of opportunities (for Mexico, maybe a Pinata Match or a Mayan Temple (Legends of the Hidden Temple-style?) Match or something), but not too many of them have been suggested yet.

and here's where I turn heel.
It sounds like you want Summer Splash to be less a single big wrestling event in an arena of fans and just a bunch of random gimmick matches around all of Alaska.
Pinata Match is kinda racist bro. Why not add a "Sombrero on a pole" match as well?
I dunno what "everyone has in their minds" for Summer Splash that Alaska is perfect for, but I know that in my mind, I wanna do competitive wrassling matches, not WCW Era, Russo Style, Gimmick Matches.

Re: Summer Splash 2015!
Given Mexico's history with wrestling, it seems like a natural fit.

Re: Summer Splash 2015!
I have to say, I'm not a fan of switching climates. It's Summer Splash, not Summer Face Plant Into Ice. So with that in mind, I would rather go with Mexico, or perhaps someplace in South America. Brazil comes to mind, but there's all sorts of places down there we could use.

Having gimmick matches is important for a PPV. I've done gimmick matches the last two PPVs. If everything is just a normal wrestling match, Summer Splash might as well just take place in the AFW arena. There'd be literally no point in doing it elsewhere.
I also don't know how the gimmick matches, which all draw from the culture of the locale where the PPV is taking place, are somehow less of a cohesive event than a series of completely unrelated individual matches. If anything, the exact opposite is true.
But, ultimately, I did only name four potential gimmick matches for a PPV that would have a dozen or so matches taking place. These are still just suggestions, and obviously there would be plenty of standard matches (boring though they may be ). But the PPV needs matches like these gimmick ones, or else it's pointless to pretend it matters where it takes place.

Re: Summer Splash 2015!
We've already done a kayak match, an on a boat match and had an entire event dedicated to legends of the hidden temple.
The rolling green hills and mountains were the back drop for the last AV which included several polar bear style matches featuring low clothing matches.
I don't see anything especially groundbreaking tbh, plus the vast majority of matches will be in an indoor arena, unless it's someplace that would normally have an outdoor one, which northern climes would not.
