Because we could keep going with it. There are certain boosts you could do like Second Wind or Finisher or Power Move that add to your base attack.

And you could have a certain number of points (or energy or glamour or whatever you want to call it) that you get at the beginning of a match. It would be similar to Warhammer 40K where more powerful characters/things are worth more. So a combination of let's just say Silver Jessica (worth 40 points in my imaginary scenario) and Gold Eka (worth 35) get a few power ups like Tag Team Attack-Light (5 points) Crippling Submission (20 points) and Adrenaline Rush (10 points).

And then the characters base stats could be similar to the star rating a lot of people, including yours truly, have. There could be a grapple phase, a submission phase, and a strike phase. Maybe hentai phases.

But I am just bullshitting and I feel like I am going to get ignored.

Well, neither of those are proper card games. FIFA is a soccer video game that has a game mode where cards are involved. It is pretty similar to the bronze-platinum thing, where a Gold Dempsey is worth more than a Bronze Dempsey. My concern is that the cost for a Bronze Jessica would have to be similar to a Platinum Jessica so there is incentive to get and use the platinum Jessica as opposed to just having a million power ups. It is on all of the consoles if you want to try your hand at it and the game mode is call Ultimate Team. But it isn't really a card game in the proper sense.

But Warhammer 40K is a table top game that is played with dice and miniatures and many many rule books. I know I might piss off a lot of Yu Gi Oh apologists on this board but I think it is incredibly silly that not all cards cost anything and it doesn't require resource management at all. If you really want to get into it is going to take a long time and cost infinity dollars so you might be better off looking for things online. But it also isn't a proper card game.

Another thing you could look at is all the Magic: The Gathering effects like Flying or Deathtouch or Shroud and the like. It would be cool if not every bout was decided by just stats versus stats.

Yu-Gi-Oh DOES have resource management. The resources are your actual cards and your life points, not to mention that most of the more powerful cards have some kind of cost involved to balance out their effects.

So hyperbole might not have been the most sage decision when writing my post. As far as I understand it cards over a certain star level require sacrifices to play and like you mentioned there are certain cards that require life points to play? Can you give me an example of a cost that a powerful card might be? I will add the addendum that I do not know a terrific amount about Yu Gi Oh.

My issue is hard to explain, so I will try to give an example. Let's say we are playing Yu Gi Oh. I have a trap card that says Kill target attacking creature and a whip-kick-fuck-smasher that I would have to sacrifice some creature to put on the field. What rational incentive could there be to not play both? As long as you have both of the cards (which might create a buy a lot of things to win scenario) what are you actually trying to manage? In Magic let's say I have 5 blue mana. I could play Parapet Watchers and try to beef up my ability to protect my life or I could play Counterbore to try and counter some whip-kick-fuck-smasher my opponent might play. I can't do both and I will have to try and think more strategically which I think is more rewarding for the players. I just feel like cards and life points are a given and you aren't really thinking proactively and trying to consider your opponent when you make moves. That could just be my personal opinion though.

But either way I think I have added all of the on-topic input I can so I will probably just shut up.

Considering that Cliffords spawn infinite Dragon-Ruler sized monsters, Nekroz has infinity Trishulas and there's almost certainly more of the same coming, the only thing that even remotely looks like a resource is your Life Points.
