Re: Topic: Wrestling?
he lost to John Cener in a title match even after beating him for ten minutes with a briefcase before the match started.
And Cody Rhode's mustache went and became a porn star.
People were still popping for Sandow before that match. Afterwards, he started doing the thing where he showed up in a gimmick of the week. Like he was magneto and he was Your Sport's Team's Rival and he was a Snowbird, etc. etc.
And he was still great at it despite how sad it was. Sandow is the best because he puts 100% even into the shittiest, shittiest things he's given to do.
I have to think that either Vince wasn't buying Sandow or there was some backdoor politics involved in him losing his push.
Either way, I personally probably put him in my top 3 of current wrestlers and I have liked him since his inception. I doubt he'll ever get as big as he had gotten, but I sure HOPE he does eventually :/
As far as pulling off a clown (or anything, really) he's a million times better than Santino.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
The biggest issue with Rusev losing to Cena is the same issue of Rusev losing to anybody. Once he's no longer undefeated, whats the point?
His entire character is centered around "America sucks and Russia is better and the proof of that is how no american, or anybody else in the world for that matter, can defeat me!"
and then he loses, and then his entire gimmick fails because the writers have no idea what to do with him after his first loss. Same reason Goldberg failed, because once he was no longer undefeated, nobody writing the show had any clue what to do with him, and he just floundered forever.
Odds are, once he loses, he'll stay semi-serious for a few months, they'll run out of ideas, and he'll spend the next few years being the next Mark Henry/Great Khali/Tensai type. He'll be big and look tough, and then lose to everybody he faces.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
The big difference between Rusev and Goldberg is that Rusev can actually wrestle.
I am never going to assume the writers are going to fail, even if they do on occasion. I don't actually believe Rusev's gimmick is built upon him staying undefeated only. He doesn't DESTROY people like Goldberg did. He's not annihilating them and hasn't in a long, long time. There's not an air of invincibility around Rusev at all.
A lot of his victories have actually been pretty damn cheap. To me, it's more like, he's lucky to have kept his streak as long as he has because he makes a pretty good cowardly villain.
I think there are plenty of ways to build them back up. Besides. Are you just going to have him never ever lose a match ever? That's worse than letting him lose and trying to rebuild or retool him after the loss.
It's a way different beast than with Goldberg and I think (hope) it will be treated differently by the writers.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
The thing is, Rusev's loss needs to be against someone who MATTERS. Someone that could use the push that they'll get from being the one to finally bring Rusev down.
Giving that win to Cena will mean nothing in the long run. It'll just be another checkmark on the list of people that Super Cena has beaten. >__>

Cena doesn't need it. >___>
Literally anyone in the company could use a win over the unstoppable Rusev more then him.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
You're misunderstanding what I am saying.
The loss to Rusev at the hands of Cena is the best thing for RUSEV. Losing to anyone else might push that person up, but I think it would only be temporary and it would certainly push Rusev DOWN.
RUSEV needs to lose to the biggest man on the block for his first loss. it's a GREAT push for HIM.
I think the situation is a little different than it is with most other lolcenawins things. Even the Bray stuff. Bray was already fighting the big time dudes at the time. Fighting Cena hyped him until lolcenawins, but I don't think that's the case for Rusev. I think it's about the only thing that can help him propel himself past his gimmick into the next stage of his career. Anyone else and it's be what Tai says, imo.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Lesnar didn't need the win over Undertaker either. Didn't stop it from happening.
Beating Rusev should be a big deal, it should be the topic of the next Raw's conversation, going "Can you believe so and so defeated Rusev!? Rusev was badass last night, and for this guy to pull through and win is amazing!"
Ambrose would be great for it, especially with the way he needs to be built back up.
Instead it'll be "John Cena defeats Rusev, because John Cena is the greatest ever and nobody can stop him"
I mean, Maybe it could work, maybe, if Cena actually took Rusev seriously as a threat and they actually made Rusev seem like he was on Cena's level, or that Cena had to seriously work to beat him, then maybe it could push Rusev is well. But Cena isn't Ric Flair, he isn't Kurt Angle, he isn't HBK, he isn't Mick Foley. Cena CANNOT get other guys over and get himself over at the same time. He will make bad jokes over the next few weeks, treat Rusev like he's no big threat, then at the match itself, it'll be lolcenawins.
Sure he'll take a few hits, then he'll no sell all of it and get an easy win, and Rusev, like Wyatt in 2014, Wade Barrett in 2010, Alberto Del Rio in 2013, The Miz in 2009, Big Show in 2009, Ryback in 2013, Dolph Ziggler in 2012, and I'm sure at least one or two others I can't remember the name of, will have his value drop, and everything since his debut would all be for the sole purpose of being fed to John Cena.
Of course, I could be wrong, and they'll give Rusev a clean win over Cena by making him pass out in the Camel Clutch, which would be awesome and would be great for Rusev. But the odds of that are incredibly slim, and if it does happen, I'll eat my kitten.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
Lesnar beating Undertaker is a compleeeetely different thing altogether.
Though, as much as everyone hates the fighting champ, that singular event has pushed him to be the biggest monster heel the company has seen in a long, long time and it's been paying dividends when it comes to Pay-Per-View matches.
So, I would argue, maybe it DID need to happen?
I think the big difference between a lot of those guys is that they didn't need to associate with anyone to get the kind of pop. (except maybe ADR, but that's a different story)
And Miz WAS champ and I LIKED him as champ. I'd personally LOVE to see him in the maine event again, though his current gimmick is pretty good. A lot of those guys needed wins to get their push. Rusev doesn't, I don't think. He's hit a glass ceiling with what he can do with his current gimmick. Right now he just needs to be NEAR Cener to have a little bit of that rub off effect.
Which DOES work for some when done right. It was working for Ryback until they made him a heel and made him fight Cena.
I just see this as a different situation than those other examples. Rusev needs the association more than he needs a omgstunnign victory against Cener.
Then again, if e GOT it, I wouldn't complain either but I dunno if they are willing to do Cener/Rusev at WM. Nor do i know if I would WANT to see it for either of those guys. I just think Fastlane sets up perfectly.
Miss the fuckign Elimination Chamber though >F

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, but I don't see it.
Also I was mention Miz's fued with Cena back in 2009, where he jobbed to Cena multiple matches in a row and looked like a total chump. Miz became champ in late 2010, where he was STILL made to look like a chump next to Cena and Rock.
That being said, I liked that Miz won the belt. It was fresh.
