Resurgence!
The AFW Arena was at near capacity, full of fans, with a live taping of Friction taking place. The show was just starting, and everyone was buzzing about what was going to happen tonight, when suddenly the speakers began to belt out the guitar notes of ONE OK ROCK - The Beginning
There was a moment of confusion, as the theme wasn't attached to a wrestler. But then Asami Asagiri dashed out from backstage, clad in her ring attire, and the crowd cheered for AFW veteran. The self styled ninja paused in wonder. She had been practically gone for a year, caught up in a series of poor life choices, such as becoming a vigilante battling on the streets in an effort to stop gangs from placing the streets of Tokyo in their grip. Yet despite her absence, the crowd remembered her fondly, new and old fans cheering the first of the AFW's ninja themed wrestlers. The sounds of the fans was something Asami didn't even know she had missed....
Resuming her run to the ring, Asami jumped onto the apron, near a corner, and then nimbly hopped onto the top turnbuckle. The Japanese woman let out a wordless yell, throwing a fist into the air, the crowd mirroring her and yelling in return. With a wild grin, Asami jumped backwards off the top ropes, throwing her body into a twisting backflip. She landed on her feet, sticking the landing as well as any gymnast.
Taking a mic from a tech as her music died down, Asami waited a moment, collecting her thoughts before speaking.
"W..wow..." she said, sniffing lightly. "Thank you....thanks for the welcome back. I didn't know how much I missed you guys, not until I stepped through those curtains."
Asami paused.
"And it makes me even sorrier that I left." she went on. "I thought I had good reasons for leaving. There were so many new faces, I felt lost in the shuffle here. Was I really making a difference in the AFW? No, and it's ok, I really wasn't. I mean, I'm just one of the mid-level girls on the roster. So I quietly left, went to do something I thought I could really make a difference at. I was going to apply my martial arts to another type of fighting. But...it wasn't the same."
Yeah, that was kinda close to the truth.
"It was a savage and brutal sort of venue, this new thing. But it paid well, so I kept doing it, getting better at it. I even started to fool myself into thinking I liked it. It took someone from here, the AFW, finding me, and forcing me to see that I wasn't in a place that was right for me. She didn't back down, this special someone, and got in my face, and made me see reason. She brought me home....back here, and girl, you know who you are, thank you, for everything. Everything..."
Asami winked at the camera.
"No guys, I'm not embarrassing her by saying her name. But I will say this: I'm back, and I'm here to stay! And I'm even more energized than I was before! Yes, I may still be 'just a mid-card talent,' but you know what, that's ok. I do better when I'm the underdog. It'll make my climb up all the more exciting to watch, and I'm going to take this 'card' that people judge talent by and I'm going to rip that bastard up and shove it down the haters throats!"
The forceful language made the crowd cheer.
"Mark my words....every match, every fight, I'm going to pour my heart and soul into it. Win or lose, you're going to see a spectacle! It doesn't matter if I'm in the ring with a newcomer, or the champion herself, she's going to know she was in a battle! This....this is my promise!"
With that, she dropped the mic to the mat while going to the corner. Climbing up to stand on the second rope, Asami raised her fist again, yelling to the crowd, her music flaring up again as the camera faded out.....
