I believe he just keeps rubbing someone the wrong way backstage. Multiple people came to Vince asking to push him up the card, from Cena to HHH. But I keep hearing those rumors ever since WM30. 3 years later, and only notible achievement Cesaro has are his 2 tag title reigns and countless great matches against various people on the roster.

While I sometimes enjoy reading the awards, I don't really have a lot of interest or respect for Dave's opinion on things. Not that he isn't a smart guy, but he does things that irk me. He likes to compare New Japan and WWE and UFC against each other a lot, pretending like all three are the exact same thing.

Thing is, WWE's entertainment style, focusing on drama and story and "moments", is not equal to NJPW's "Strong Style", those aren't equal to Lucha Libre's "Fast paced, light touching, acrobatic" style.

It's like how people keep comparing Omega/Okada to Styles/Cena 3. It's two different styles, that focus on different aspects. Comparing the two is pretty much exactly like comparing apples and oranges. Yes, they are both pro wrestling on the surface, but once you get deeper, they are too different to fairly compare.

Then Dave tries to throw MMA into the mix, which is frankly unfair. Dana White gets the "Promoter of the year" award 11 times, 9 of which were in a row, but hell, MMA/UFC is a far easier thing to promote than WWE. The idea of "Real Fighting" literally sells itself, all Dana has to do is say "Hey, this guy/girl is talented as fuck. Watch him/her fight" and it sells. Even when he doesn't have the biggest MMA stars on hand, it sells, and then when someone like Ronda or Connor gets super popular, he can just ride that wave to the bank with minimal effort on his part.

Then there's stuff like "Connor McGregor wins most Charismatic Award/Best Promos over all MMA/Wrestling", which is kind of unfair. Yes, Connor IS charismatic, no doubt there, but its also WAY easier to BE charismatic when your not scripted and have free reign to say ANYTHING you want, ever, at all times, and are encouraged to say whatever you want about your opponent.

Hell, when Seth Rollins was a double champion, could you imagine if he did an interview right after and said, live at Summerslam: "Where's my fucking second belt!? What the fuck!?"

He'd probably be fired.

So yeah, I take all his stuff with a grain of salt. Not all things wrestling and MMA are equal, so his idea that they are, combined with his huge bias towards pretty much all things Puroresu, makes it hard to take anything he says seriously.

Dave lost major points with me when he shat on Lucha Underground.

Alexandra always says that AdR can be exciting if people just let him speak for himself.

Nearly everything I have seen personally from AdR was the polar opposite of excitement, so I have not much hope that he can match the broken Matt Hardy success.

Pff.

Broken Matt couldn't even keep his own success up, since even the Broken Hardys stopped spiking the ratings once they stopped doing Final Deletion and Great War matches, and episodes of Impact that had them on it just doing whatever failed to stop the ratings slump.

Stuff like that gets around quick, from what I've heard, Cesaro is as good a guy backstage as he looks. Dave Meltzer already gave his honest opinion, and it's one word as to why Cesaro isn't at the top of the card yet:
