I Suck at Life

Mercy hated Brittany Luvve.

As she took a sip from her mocha latte, she just now realized that. She always KNEW it, but she never realized the extent of it. Now she was getting ready to WORK for her. Or, at least, she had drawn up a contract. Mercy had been so flabbergasted by a combination of Brittany's audacity and the prospect of quick and easy money that she hadn't even thought about WHO she was working for. She was also partially determined to show the world that Brittany Luvve was one snake who could never change her scales! She had written some things into the contract between them that had her butt covered in case Brittany got too handsy, whether it be in a threatening manner or the other kind... Mercy blushed at the thought. She had been in that situation before and didn't like it.

She had some pride on the line.

But, still, she wanted to tell her friends what she was doing so they could tell her how stupid she was.

That's why she had invited Taylor out for a cup of coffee. She hadn't taken the papers to Brittany yet, but thy were supposedly meeting later today. Well, once Taylor left, Mercy was going to call Brittany. She had already said WHERE to meet, she just hadn't given a time. Mercy sighed as she thumbed through her phone. Nothing about this was a good idea... But that just made her all the more determiend to prove the universe wrong!

It was nice to get out and do something for once, that didn't involve being all sweaty and hitting things. Taylor took full advantage of the occasion.

She wore her hair down, and had taken the time to make sure it looked awesome. Long and blonde, with blood red streaks through one side of her bangs and toward her neck. She wore a clingy, off-white dress made of stretchy fabric like a t-shirt, fishnets, and black glam-punk ankle boots. She wore a big leather bracelet on her wrist, and a necklace with a flying bird pendant.

She thought she looked hot as hell.

She strolled into the cafe with a big smile and quickly found Mercy. "Hey!" She said cheerfully with a wave, and sat down across from the pink-haired paralegal and crossed her legs.

"How's it goin', man?" She asked earnestly, and gave her smile to the waiter when he came over. <Tea with milk, please!> She said to him, and then looked back at her friend.

"I'm glad you called, man. I'd just be stuck doing the same old thing otherwise."

Mercy perked up as Taylor entered and grinned at her friend. "hey!" She chirped back. She was glad to see her friend, it had been a while, she thought. "I'm doing alright, actually." She said. "How about you?" She wondered if things were going well for the blonde as well.

"I mean, I have some free time now, you know, so i thought I'd hit you up while I have the chance!" She laughed a little nervously, tryign to make light of her recent termination. "Well, technically I'm not totally fired. I'm still under a wrestler's contract and I'm still sort of trying to sort things out with Rally to see if whatever Lukretia pulled would actually fly, buuut..."

Mercy shrugged. "I um... might... have another prospective job that would still keep me in the company..." Mercy looked down nervously and quickly covered her face with a big sip from her mocha latte.

"Well... Every day is an adventure," Taylor said with a smile.

"Yeah, some free time isn't such a bad thing..." She nodded sympathetically. "But that's great, right? I mean, I know you'll land on your feet. You're smart and stuff, and you've got a degree and junk, right? People like you can always get good jobs. And just let me know if there's anything I can do in the meantime, ya know?"

She leaned back in her chair and hooked an arm over the back rest, and bounced her foot up and down under the table. She could never quite stop moving.

"Sooooooo... What's the job?"

"Ummm, wellll..." Mercy said, turning her head and blushing. It was hard to try and explain things to Taylor for either of her questions so she started in order.

"Actually..." she began, "I have never really graduated from... anywhere. I've done a little bit of schooling, but I've done everything I have with my ability..." She should have been proud of that, but the way Taylor asked, she felt a little ashamed. "Well, I didn't have any money for it so I had to make what I wanted to work without it and, I guess I did!" Mercy said finally, beaming at Taylor.

And then...

She took another sip. "Um, well, it's kind of weird, actually. When I was going to talk to some of my girls in other AFW departments I got stopped by someone." She looked sheepishly at Taylor and then lowered her gaze, staring at her latte.

"...Brittany hired me..." She muttered.

Taylor nodded, somewhat bemused by Mercy's lack of a degree. She figured that all the smart girls like her had like, multiple degrees in fancy shit or whatever.

Her confusion didn't end there. "Brittany?" She questioned, shaking her head with a furrowed brow. "Brittany-who?"

"...Brittany... Luvve..."

The answer only left Taylor even more confused. She shook her head as if she could rattle her brain back to life. There was just no way to make sense of this.

"...What?"

"Nnnn..."

Mercy didn't want to explain things to Taylor but she had to. "I was in the AFW lobby and she approached me. She said she needed a personal assistant and that she would pay me a lot of money to be hers." Mercy just couldn't bring herself to look Taylor in the eyes.

"So... until I can find something else, I'll do that. I'll take her money for easy work." She said. "I've got a contract. I'm protected. I..." Mercy finally lifted up her head to finally look Taylor in the eyes and put on her best 'Please, please please understand/don't murder me' face.

"Wow, dude..."

Taylor kept shaking her head in utter shock. She tried to smile at the waiter when he brought her tea, but she couldn't quite manage it.

"And this whole time, I thought you were the smart one." She put a hand to her forehead and leaned her elbow on the table while she blew on her tea. "Like, do I actually have to remind you who this chick is? What the fuck do you think a contract is going to protect you from? This motherfucker raped your ex. Do you seriously only care about money?"
